Default Marketing Suggestion for Space Empires

For those who are not familiar with the site, check out www.the-underdogs.org .

The underdogs is dedicated towards preserving high quality computer games from the late 1970s to the present, but only those games which are truly “hidden gems”

Both SEIV and SEIII are listed on the underdogs.

I’m not sure how much SEIII sells anymore, but perhaps Sharpnel & Malfaldor would consider making SEIII freeware. Same for SEII. It could be a great way to introduce the SE series to more people.

For what its worth, www.matrixgames.com took the same approach with two computer game classics from Gary Grisby, which is in fact, how I found matrixgames. I am already pre-sold on the upcoming Napoleon at War, and from what I can see, matrix found many new customers by offering these two free classics.

I read not too long ago that SE3 was still selling copies.
Once SEIII stops selling, it would be a good idea.

SE3 is still sold under license from Altus Software, I believe. Malfador wouldn't be able to release it as freeware until it got permission to do so (i.e. Altus decides it isn't earning any profit any more, doesn't want to have to process the orders any more, or simply gives it up out of generosity). Or, alternately, until the contract expired.

In any case, I've been planning for years to buy SE3 but never got around to it, so I know of at least one person in the market for it. ;-)

(I've been lurking on the Space Empires scene ever since I found SE2 on a shareware CD back in the mid-nineties, but never got around to buying anything until I got my paws on a credit card and this site. =P)

...By the way, I'm well aware that MM is mostly headed by Aaron Hall, but it's more fun to think of it as a big company. ;-)
