Default Early war GE Pz 3:2 armored platoons

I believe it used to be possible to buy mixed tank platoons of PzI's and PzII's in the early war period for Germany. Perhaps I'm mistaken and it was in another mod/version of SP.

According to various historical sources, at least some of the GE armored formations in '39 used tank platoons composed of two PzIIc's and 3 PzIb's, and some of the later platoons reversed the mixture.

While it is possible to use MobHack to add these platoons for solo and campaign play, I'd really prefer to keep my oobs stock for pbem play.

Thanks

Formation 43- PanzerZug(le)/5 is designed as a mixed formation of PzI's and PzII's and will occasionally be delivered that way by the AI and you have the option of buying Formation 009 - Panzer Grp (le)first with PzI's then with PzII's

I'm using the CD version patched to 4.25 and in over 100 tries of purchasing that platoon have never seen it come up as anything other than all five of the same type. I'm pretty sure that the behavior you mention used to happen a few versions back though - perhaps this belongs in a bug report?

Thanks

It does not require a bug report, since the formation purchase code is behaving as it was redesigned perhaps 5 years back.

The original SSI code would buy a randomly mixed platoon if you had a template formation that had differing template units of the same unit class. In addition, each platoon buy within a company would "throw the dice" again (ignoring the X3 radio code stuff if used). That was a mess as AI formations often had different mixed bag selections of the same unit class.

The new code now chooses ONE type of the template unit class to use in any formation (including companies). Thus the AI will buy a homogeneous company of T34, not the old mix-up that could occur with say a platoon of T26 in the middle. Same goes for formations like that GE one with 2xP1 and 3XP2.

Therefore if you want/need a platoon of 2X and 2Y, then the X will need to be of unit class cX and the Y of unit class cY.

Cheers
Andy

The memory plays tricks. I thought when the AI bought that still occurred.
