Custom Buildings
I've been able to create new terrain icons just fine, but for some reason, the building icons are being stubborn. The new ones will not appear in-game. After countless clicks cycling through single-hex buildings to find the custom one, and even filling a whole map with single-buildings and not even seeing it that way, I've become frustrated. Are the building SHPs any different than other terrain SHPs? I'm only editing the z4, and I'm giving it the correct file name.

Re: Custom Buildings
1/If you added them to the end of the file they will never show up because the game only knows about the ones that are already there because it needs to know there are buildings in file X from A --> M and if you put them past that it will never, ever look there.
2/ It could be you are looking at the wrong zoom level. If you only put them into z4 and are viewing the map from z3 they will never appear
3/ A third possibilty is you have multiple copies of the game on your HD and you are looking at the wrong copy.

Re: Custom Buildings
No, I'm at the correct zoom level. I'm running the game on a separate HD. Every single one of my custom changes have taken except the buildings. I'll try loading a fresh Ter29z4.shp, I may have corrupted the SHP somehow. Another possibility is that I uploaded the icon using the wrong canvas size. While we're discussing building icons, would it be too difficult to implement a hotkey combination that allows one to select a particular building icon during map design? It's mind-numbing cycling through dozens of buildings looking for just one.

Re: Custom Buildings
Yeah we know that's why we put that hotkey in years ago.
use the
;
key when placing buildings and it will lock into that one until you press it again.
Maybe it's time to re-read the game documentation AND the in game HELP files ??

Re: Custom Buildings
No, that's not what I mean at all, forget the ';' key. I'm asking if it's possible to create a hotkey that allows the map designer enter the number of the building he wants (the number of a particular tile in the SHP), and then be able to place it on the map. THEN one could lock that particular building using the ';' key if so desired. I'm asking for a completely separate function from the ';' key.

Re: Custom Buildings
I've done searches for building using the existing code and it's far from "mind numbing". That would apply if you don't use the ; key and that's the way it came across.

Re: Custom Buildings
I don't understand what you mean by 'searches for buildings using the existing code'.. are you referring to simply clicking until the one you want appears?
