Fallout Re: How big is too small?

Considering a liberty ship was about a 135m long and some were still in use then at least to the early sixties I would say off hand no smaller then 150m. But most ships were in the 450ft range, tankers up to around 700ft, aircraft carriers 875ft+ general coastal shipping all types 125 - 300ft on average for all listed. The largest pier I've ever seen was at NAVWEASTA EARLE, NJ. around a mile and a half long with a great view of lower Manhattan in NYC where we were "parked". All that great liberty we could've had except for the long swim to get there!?! Anyway as I recall you could only drive or run off that pier, walking was not allowed to and from the pier. Allow at LEAST 50ft more in length and increase to portion to the length of the ship your modeling for i.e tanker + 80ft or so. Width depending 45ft. to 300ft+ (For ones using gantry cranes.) These would even work for today to some degree though tankers are out over 1000ft+ and carriers beyond that. Hope this helps somewhat!?!

Since I'm feeling nautical I'm hitting the rack! Though I seem to remember saying that elsewhere about an hour ago!

Regards,
Pat
