Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)
It wasn't a war of expansion; it was a war of "get out of my way". Only reason it's not going well is because Pythium went around you, so now I'm focusing my attention where it belongs.
Meanwhile, Dominions has amazed me yet again. After setting a certain Harbringer's eyes on fire, my mages decided they had nothing better to do than to charge him and fling themselves on his flaming sword. Awsome! Like, what else would a mage with orders of "Stay behind troops" do?

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)
Marignon finally fell, as our last army was besieging a castle while our last province was taken. Didn't realize that besieging a castle would not count as having a province, stupid me.
Anyhow, Caelum took me out of the game quick and with ease. Grats to him and thanks for the fun!

Marignon, thanks for putting up a good fight. Kudos for not giving up until the very end. You had almost pushed the war into a dead-end grindfest, but luckily I was able to recover with my superior economy.
I will inform you of the results of the final battle with your last army, so stay posted.

Sure, I did compensate my limited numbers with diplomacy but thats so obvious you could have bet on it or did you expect me to just sit and watch you burning my back yard?
You havent beated my only field army in a single battle, while your field armies have melted away one after another.

He follows troops and does not cast spells since you didn't tell him 'Cast spells'. So if there's no archer to hide behind, he'll naturally follow the lone soldier and go hand to hand, or go hand to hand if there' noone to stay behind. For fun effect, try to script a mage with hold*2, raise skeleton, hold*2, cast and some other mage forward with stay behind troops. Look at what they do before and after the skeleton is raised.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)
No, the default behavior for a mage with orders "Stay behind troops" is to cast spells. The only reason he didn't cast was because the Harbringer had fire immunity from his sword, so fire spells weren't going to do much.
From what I could tell, he wasn't standing behind the rearmost soldier; he was charging into the melee as best he could.
Your comment about the skeleton reminds me of something hilarious that happened once in another game. Some elephants of mine were retreating, and worked their way behind my lines. My commanders (set to stay behind troops) all ran to greet them and got flattened.
