Well, to be honest, I think you guys are full of it if you think this game does not have good AI. No offense.
These reviewers are right on this subject. I have never seen most AIs in other games do half the stuff this game does. I realize the AI still has a lot of issues, but the fact is that if you compare it to any other game even remotely similar to this one, the AI is much much better.
But I think you guys keep comparing it to what an ideal AI would do, which is just stupid, since the ideal AI is human. This game will never have AI good enough to beat all you experts out there 100% of the time. Its impossible. But for the average gamer who does not take advantage of every single loophole or AI idiosynchrosy to win, this AI is quite challanging.
The AI is quite good, for an AI, and I really think you guys should try to realize that it is just that, artificial intelligence. It does not cheat, it does not automatically gang up on human players, and yet it still manages to give a good game, and it will wipe you out if you are not paying attention. And yes, it can be improved, and it will be. But as it stands, its the most capable and challanging AI I have ever encountered.

Apache, agree with you entirely. The AI does have a number of blind sides but, those aside, it is far more challenging that most other AI's I have come across too.
If the reviewer had played say only three or four games, he probably would have gotten beaten in a couple of them, particularly if he played in small galaxies (in large galaxies experienced players know that the AI does not expand fast enough)....

Well compared to SE3's AI, SE4's is in pretty bad shape. I know there is much more for it to worry about and it hasn't had as many patches, but it can't compare with SE3's. The AI has no teeth whatsoever, and although it moves ships in fleets, it never really does anything with them. It's also horrible at managing its planets; it makes research colonies out of high-mineral planets and puts mining facilities on almost every planet, no matter how low the mineral value is. When I started playing I thought the game was great in every aspect, but after about 4 1/2 months you start to notice things. It IS improving, but it certainly isn't "Good" yet.

apache have you ever put your ministers on?
Just turn them all on and watch what they do...
Must agree with you when you say that this AI doesn�t cheat but is miles (or kilometers since im EUropean)away from the AI in other games like MOO2, CIV2 or SMAC ( I think the AI cheats a lot in the higher levels at least in this games).
I respect MM for trying to do a challanging AI that doesn't cheat but the road is only half done. Must say again that I like the game but don't love it.
Gonna try to get time to play it now with Mephisto and Sergetti Last mods...

PS: Dracus, thanks for the clarification. I agree with you that BS as nothing to do with the web, but where would I found it written without being on the web.
