Is there any way to prevent being horror marked?
Seems like a simple easy lower level spell that can do great harm? Can it be prevented?

No no way to prevent it. Its quite naughty if you get your God horror marked.
The thing is I believe at the beginning the power of the horror mark is low, so you shouldn't get attacked by many/strong horrors. afterwards you can use bodyguards for your horror-marked SC's to prevent them from getting hit and horror-marked more by the horror attacks.(which will lead to bigger and bigger horrors appearing and almost sure death).
Another thing about horror marking is that its a slow process. And while it is certainly annoying the Horror marked unit has some 20-30 turns(that is relative) before being attacked by the big horrors and dying. So even for 10-5 turns you can wipe your enemy out. Thus horror marking is not as efficient (at least in my eyes) as paralyze(which outright can lead to your SC's death.

Got it thanks. I thought maybe anti magic amulet or something would maybe help protect from that spell.

this is a really good source of any spell, unit or item statistics that you might be interested in. It shows you which spells can be negated by magic resistance(if there is a "MR negates" in the spell's description) and if it doesnt say that then it is not negated by MR, but probably something else (like fire damage with fire resistance).

Re: Is there any way to prevent being horror marked?
Being horror marked is usually less of a problem than you would think. Only pretenders and uniques are fubarred when horror marked. And as pretenders can show up pretty quickly ingame. Horror marking is a valid (but very slow) counter against them.
It takes to long for a horror marked unit to be killed by those horror marks. (And is the unit has astral magic, you can always script returning).
Units (not commanders) that are horror marked do not even get randomly attacked by horrors. (And you can use them as bodyguards so that these bodyguards get attacked before the commanders get attacked).
I should not worry about it to much. You can always create more SCs.

Yeah but don't horror marks stack? If you are having particular trouble with a nasty SC that doesn't have much backup I think you can stack Horror marks on it and it won't take long at all for a lot of nasty horrors to start showing up and attacking it thus compounding the problem.

Indeed they stack. The only way to avoid the doom horrors is to have astral with pearls and returning scripted.

Yeah they stack. But what is worse, having a horrormark stacked SC die after half a dozen combats, or have it die in once combat because the S mages were scripted to either cast stellar cascades or mind burn instead of horror mark/astral geyser?

In a way... yes it can be prevented. The horror marking spell will target the largest creatures in the battlefield. So if your pretender is size 4 have him travel with many size 5 and size 6 units. If your pretender is size 6 than it's a gamble against other size 6 units/leaders.

Vine ogres and dark vines can be used as easy cheap decoys.
