Re: campaign scenario setup help
Thanks!
After this successful operation you are transferred north into a special task force of mixed nationality, which just came back from the Russian front. The unit is still in a process of refitting and preparing for Rommel's next offensive.
4 months later, on the 26th of May, the long awaited offensive against the British Gazala position finally kicks of. Due to the length of the front line, the Allies are organised in a bunch of "boxes", defensive positions scattered throughout the desert, supported by artillery, tanks and dug-in anti-tank guns. It is your task to take one of them, thus opening the path to Tobruk.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
several new pieces of equipment have been delivered to the unit on its mission on the spearhead of the advance. KG Hauser/Baggio has now the questionabe honor to go wherever there is trouble.
Especially because they are now linked to the famous Cassadore di africa that are a legend in italia for their march to italian north africa from abyssinia.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
half an hour into the attack the dessert already has cost the KG 2 halftracks and around 20 men. The RAF attacked and left its mark even though the FlAK also left its mark on the RAF dmaaging all of the planes and shooting down in flames 3 of them. 2 tanks have been immolbilised nad now the infantry is rechingthe trenches of the british troops.
The hill is hold by infantry and at least 2 companies of tanks which is quite problematic since KG hauser only has one tank company. So far all taht can be done is throw smoke into the line of sight of the english tankers.
it might be up to the infantry again to stuff the tank guns with grenades...

Re: campaign scenario setup help
S o after one hour of bloody fighting the battle ended. losses were unusually high in equipment and men. 2 Tanks got dmaged but can be repaired. 3 HT were destroyed by air attack. completey torn apart by 20mm bullets.
Also there were some men injured in the artillery and ad units but most of them will be able to return to duty soon.
like always the infantry was hit the worst but they also won the battle. the tanks and infantry garding the ridge were disabled by them using all kinds of impovised at weapons, flamethrowers and explosives. 3 valentine tanks and one grant were captured more or less intact. Also a huge number of trucks and guns were captured that might replace the destroyed halftracks until further replacements arrive.
lessons learned here are that the airdefense has to be taken more seariously and that the tanks have to act more aggresive to minimise losses to the infantry.
Now the men of the KG take a rest on the ridgeline at least for a few hours until further orders arrive.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
as the panzers fill up their tanks and the infantry munitions up it looks poising to continue the attack into the nemy rear now that the box is taken.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
After the breakthrough, British tank forces hastily counter attack. A swirling armor battle develops in the open desert.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
Many weapons were captured but for now none of the guns could taken with the unit as they had to advance further on. Hauser and Baggio decided on leaving a little covering force to organize the incorporation of the captured equipment and crews for them.
only Teniente Ferrari and his crew got a new ride.one of the grant tanks could be put into running condition. their own tank had been heavily dmaged bya bomb and its gun had been taken out of comission. Also some of the trucks were started since 3 transports had been lost to air attack.
The infantry was reorganized to have 3 full strength squads in each platoon at least therest of the men went as replacments to the artillery or into the reserve guarding the captured equipment.
temperatures had become almost ubearable as the unit moved onwards into the breach they had created the day before. still many of the veterans were still frozen inside from the russian winter and the burning sun and allied air units were easier in them then freezing cold and russian tanks.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
After beating the British forces near Gazala, it is time to take the prize that eluded Rommel in 1941: Tobruk
The city is defended by several ex-Italian fortified posts, now occupied by South African forces.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
although reports earler stated the english were already beaten at gazala the battle is still going on. the british commander has be reached by the frst german units trying to storm a ridge in the dessert. meanwhile the allies get more reeinforcements trying to beat back the axis battlegroup.
a huge amount of vehicles have been lost after only 30 minuits of fighting but it it looks like KG Huaser might once again be victorious.
knowing that they are to continue and take tobruk only makes them push harder since they hope to surprise the defenders of the harbour.
