You have to go back to the child forum for it to mark it as read automatically.
So if post is in TO&E go to it do not hit backspace in your browser that will not work.

I have noticed that sometimes if I go to a sub-forum and read a thread, then skip back up to the main forums page, the green light stays on despite no unread messages remaining in it. You seem to have to go up one level at a time for the forum software to properly notice the sub-forum message(s) has been read and synch itself.

But if I do it and the green light stays on, if I am sure I have read all, then using the "mark forum read" tool that Don highlighted, is the faster way of getting the forum software to synch properly.

For me I always use the forum feature "New Posts" and read those from that link and then after reading each thread, then I click the "New Posts" until nothing is new/read...but that is just how I have been doing it here...
