The saga of modeling obscure aircraft into the game continues.



This one actually fills a niche in the early years of the game and it's so ugly it's beautiful. I had some time to kill yesterday so I created one as I hadn't built an icon since the end of the first lockdown this year and I was looking for something "unique"

The Dornier N was a bomber aircraft designed in Germany in the 1920s which started in production in Japan in 1927. The aircraft were built as the Kawasaki Ka 87 which was also referred to as the Type 87 Night Bomber.*

It was designed and built as a landplane but its layout is very similar to the Dornier flying boats of the same period and was a parasol-wing, strut-braced monoplane with two engines mounted in a push-pull nacelle above the wing. Some of the 28 examples that were built saw action in Manchuria in 1931.*

Despite it's slow speed, poor stability and limited payload it's design and construction helped the Japanese gain much-needed experience in the construction of all-metal aircraft and it remained in limited service in Manchuria and Korea until modern replacements entered service in 1937.*

Main maritime flying boat of Soviet Union. Which before WW2 was declared obsolete but from lack of any better aircraft take part in war on North Sea, Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific. After WW2 all were send to North Korea where was in use until 1952 used to maritime patrol and in night bombing raids on Americans troops on ground. The were practically stealth for radars in interceptors thanks to their wooden construction.
