Re: How long do human vs human games (e-mail) take?
For what it's worth, the oldest continually running game still currently being played on PBW is an affair called "Us against the Computer". It was started in June of 2001. It's currently up to turn 180 and appears to be getting about a turn every other week recently. Not sure if it's had faster and slower periods during it's history. That is likely. That's usually how it happens.
On the other hand a game I am in that started on August 4th is already up to turn 94.
But that is slow compared to some of the games I have been in and seen. I had one game where we were averaging 7 or 8 turns a day for a couple weeks. And I have heard of games getting in 25 to 30 turns a day. It all depends on how dedicated the players are.
It also helps to have just a few players. Typically the fewer players the faster the turns.

There is also the Turn Blitz game(s). Forced 1 hour turns, so you get 24 turns per day, and the whole thing is over in a week, maybe two.

Re: How long do human vs human games (e-mail) take?
I will be uploading the first turn tonight.
The first turn will run for 48 hours, and every turn after will be half as long until we start 1 hour turns on the weekend.
EDIT: Assuming that PBW is available by that time

Re: How long do human vs human games (e-mail) take?
good lord, you people play fast. i used to like 24 hour turn games, but these days i cant do better than about 32. the nice thing about PBW, is that if all the turns are in, they run. so even in a game set to have slower turns, they will go quicker if everyone plays faster.
i have a game going that has Lasted a little over a year, and a 300 ship fleet is about to attack my sphereworld. my longest game, i think was about a year and a half (but my perception of time isnt all that great, i could be off). My fastest game Lasted about a month, and that was Furball 1.

Re: How long do human vs human games (e-mail) take?
On PBW we usually play 3-5 turns/day until turn 30, then 2-4 until turn 50 and later 1-2 turns per day. Depending on how busy the day is, we sometimes manage to get 8-10 turns in the starting period of the game.
And the best way to do it is to set pbw server to 'after Last player upload' because in that case as soon as all players upload their turns you get the new turn and don't have to wait for the time-out.
