No level of sensors in the standard game will allow you to see mines in any form. Have you had a ship encounter a mine field? That would automatically place a marker there. Do you have treaties with any other races?

Does this also mean that my ships will automatically avoid these warp points?
That's controlled by a setting under (F11) Empire Status/Empire Options; the default is to avoid minefields.

Did you open the game in the wrong mod? I once opened a TDM game in "regular" SEIV and all types of things were very strange after that. Never could get the game to work correctly after that and I abandoned it.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I didn't make that mistake only because I'm paranoid about making it and so am always very careful about that.

But I do now remember that the other weird thing that happened for a while was that one of these "M" marked warp points was listed as leading to another sector which it could not possibly have been linking to since the two sectors were unconnected. After a few turns it corrected itself and again listed the correctly linked sector. Weird.

Silent Sorrow,
Are these unexplored systems and in a "row" along the edge of the map?
If so it is possible that it looks like you should go to the next consecutive stystem. If you check the names of the warp points it will be 1 or 2 systems away.
