The ads in AIM can be easily hacked out anyway... IIRC, it simply involves deleting three lines of text.
Ditto with ICQ, except it also involves using a resource editor on the ICQCore.dll file. Run a search on everybody's favorite search engine to find out exactly how, I don't feel like looking it up again
I ended up using Trillian a while ago because I actually use all five mediums... In my hometown, ICQ is the de facto IM program. I have many friends from other parts of PA, where overall, AIM is the de facto choice. In California, it seems to be split evenly between AIM and Yahoo. And finally, MSN is pretty much the fastest growing medium, since Micro$oft pushes it on all their MSN internet Subscribers (which happens to be the fastest growing ISP among those who don't know any better). And IRC I've been using since around 1997, on and off... and I usually don't feel like loading up mIRC, so I just use the one already in Trillian.
