I've spent some hours now "chasing a ghost" called the Turkish KAPLAN sort of.

1. Turkey does not have or operate the KAPLAN 105mm tank.

2. Turkey does have and operate the KAPLAN ATGM tank which I found about 1.5 hrs. ago along with the missile it's using which is a fire and forget and also can be used as Direct Fire (Lgt. Armor) OR Top Attack (Hvy. Armor) modes.

3. Indonesia does have and just recently declared FOC of the KAPLAN 105mm because COVID delayed production and set back deliveries by +2 yrs. It looks really good.

All my refs. are lined up now, no thanks to "BOooo!!" who's no "Casper the friendly Ghost"!

When I saw the second ref. I remember reading about the situation and even posted on it regarding a change in manufacturers plus COVID delays again didn't help the ALTAY. Each number will align with its Turkish ref., and it was "female dog" of a search to get this much as far as a reliable source is concerned. Also you'll need to use your translator function, mine Win 10 current EDGE browser.

1. How Many? The 2 original ALTAY PROTOTYPES from 2013 when completed and delivered. After extensive testing they were incrementally updated to what is known now as the "NEW ALTAY".

2. It seems that last month they just started production of the new ALTAY. These tanks are highly technical in nature, if we use a similar timeline to ABRAMS, we are looking at almost at something around 16 months before the first tank rolls off the assembly line. With postproduction factory testing before the army gets them, along with the Armies own testing to IOC and FOC, WITH NO DELAYS, I'm thinking just over +2.5yrs at least until FOC.

I guess we can "push it back" again for about the 4th time to JUN 2025 and track it. I'll be in no hurry to update it anytime this year for sure as design changes can occur again.

Back to the KAPLAN I'm done at this point. At least the ref. search is fully done and finished. As I start back tomorrow hoping I can get this to you by next Mon. or Tue. if this works for you.

Turkish KAPLAN-ATV-DONE

Indonesian HARIMAU-85%+ running down ERA & ATGW OMTAS & UMTAS (As equipped for above.) the COCKERILL CT-CV 105mm HP was built to fire an ATGM since introduced in 2021. Turkey has already successfully tested both and presented it in either IDEF 2023/or 2024. Seeing if I can find verification of purchase by Indonesia

Something else at 50% will be improved upon from existing same class vehicle and is fielded.

All I can say is Life, Family and Work. Including one day of SELF indulgence with back-to-back EURO and COPA Cups.

Patch Post 2024/2025 Campaign


The KAPLAN (TURKEY FNSS) and HIRAMAU (INDONESIA PINDAD) both meaning “TIGER” is a jointly developed project between both of the above-mentioned countries. It also represents the only tank exported to another country by Turkey. I’m submitting the following at the STANAG 5 level of protection which is Level 5: Kinetic Energy Threat: 25 mm APDS-T (M791) or TLB 073 at 500 meters with 1258 m/s (frontal arc to centerline: ±30°, elevation 0°). Artillery: 155 mm High Explosive at 25 meters.

It is also to be noted that the following are built on the same chassis, I bring this up because when you look at the KAPLAN-ATV and HIRAMAU I personally felt something seemed “different” for whatever reason. Yes, I checked against myself, and all is good.

The issues are obvious from the refs. Each of the above missiles are in the field currently as these missiles are replacing their TOW and MILAN across all weapon systems. We would need 1 Man Portable for each missile, 1 PARS 4x4, 1 PARS with the OMTAS (2017 on.) and 1 PARS with the UMTAS (2020) . Also, in my search I came across the T-129 UNITS 621-623 and was wondering if the UMTAS missiles they have match the 1200mm armor penetration from the refs? Also, the T-129 ATAK can carry 12 UMTAS or 8 with 8 AA missiles (Look like STINGERS in the pod.) as the top picture of the ref. shows below.

Sixteen does seem low and if I had to take guess, I would say it could carry somewhere between 6-10 rounds of 105mm stored based on the size of the tank. That’s just my “best guess”, that’ll be a call for you to make. To the rest it has full “Hunter Killer” capability. D/R/I to identify a target in daylight at 5km/Night at 3.5km/70 hexes. I can see it coming so; D/R/I Detect/Recognize/Identify. There is no optional equipment with the Indonesian versions so it has Shot Detection System (SDS) (Some might call it Sniper Detection) and Laser Warning System (LWS). I don’t see the PULAT APS on the Indonesian tanks, but it is available. A note on PULAT they seem to have made the modules much smaller from when they were first mounted primarily on their M-60 tanks in Syria. You’ll find it in the last ref. look for it forward of and between "Cockerill" (Turret) and "TANK" on the hull.

Getting this again while trying to edit my last post-"Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall" my Bitdefender has been notifying me of suspicious activity on this site for a while as well.

Anyway, for the HIRAMAU the ROF is 6-8 rounds and it can engage aerial targets up to 55 degrees of elevation with the Rifled 105mm HP.

Hyperlinks don't cross over; it was good that I kept my refs.

First of all, AWESOME news!!

As I indicated on my MBT "2025 Deathwatch" post, I had started work on about 3 of those tanks plus one not on the list the Italian ARETE in which Italy decided to update now fully through the Phase 1-3 options as presented a few months back in this thread as you might remember.

I don't know what prompted you to post this information but, to be honest, you prevented the fairly imminent destruction of my notes on those tanks. I'm truly relieved that the time spent didn't "go down the shedder" with my notes.

As some know, just because I don't post doesn't mean I'm idle because there's always something to do out here and someone lets me do it most times at my own pace until we get to crunch time.

So, Andy & Don thanks again for the wonderful news!

Now to my last "submission", I've tried several times to update the END dates to 2030 and I get the below every time I hit the "Save Changes" button. This has only happened when I execute that "command" if you will. Also, this has been intermittent issue but somewhat fairly common over the last few months. You might remember I had brought this issue up awhile back as well.

I thought I had saved the next but was wrong. Besides the ERA they also mounted about a 2" to 3" steel armor if you will "table" on the top of the turret. You can more easily see it around the panoramic site. You should be able to blow the picture up within the article.
