Eon, era, epoch, and age.
I have seen those terms used fairly creatively in my time.
According to my dictionary
Eon a very long or indefinite period/an age of the universe/a billion years/an eternity.
The first entry sets the stage.
The second seems to mention the universe as the determinant.
Seems to think a billion is long enough to be one.
Eternity, well I think most of humanity has trouble thinking past the duration of an election, might as well forget all but a small part of the scientific community keeping Eon, era, epoch, and age in any manner of relevant order.
None of any of that matters to the religious community of course, as God made the world out of nothing only a few 10s of thousands of years ago, and they have no need for the word Eon.
Interesting that Judaism, Islam and Christinaity (in all its flavours) all have the same father, but seems to have several mothers.
No wonder humanity looks like a dysfunctional broken household eh.
