Re: A couple of Magic related questions
1. The only effective use I have ever had for the PBAE spells is defending against a storm attempt at a fort. In that case I place the casters as far forward as possible and a little to the sides of what will be the fort entrance. Then you use some chaff to bottle up the enemy and your casters will fire into a really close in, really target rich environment. Of course this presumes you are being stormed, which is usually pretty bad anyway :}
2. Yeah I have gotten some reliable use out of the Stone Sword at MR 26.
3. Dunno. You cant boost a magic path without having 1 in that path to begin with tho so I would assume not.
4. LB is a great spell for small numbers of high value or high prot units. Like Jotuns or Knights.
5. In addition to all the other comments made: any water mage can enter the water and take an amount of size 2 beings equal to his water magic with him.

3. Sanguine dousing rod used to work for scouts. It doesn't, any more. That's why there was contradicing information.

Quantum - I have been wanting to try it, but am a little concerned about hitting my own troops. Do you have any idea what the scripts were?The script I was thinking about was:
Mistform, Resist Lightning, Attack one turn, Attack one Turn, Shockwave.
The Stone Sword was one of them, there are a few though that had this warning if I remember right. I'll take a look at the MIR and see if I can find them.
6. Since everyone generally agrees about PB spells, what about short range spells...in the 10-15 range? I normally ignore these as I have done the 1-10 range. Are there any particular spells in this range that you do script? Personally I haven't found any that are effective enough to warrent the possibility that I may lose a round of casting due to the fact that there are no valid targets within range.

I had good experience with Schockwave cast by Vans or Harbingers, but I rather script
Mistform-(any buff)-Attack 1 turn-Shockwave-Shockwave
The trick is that the unit must get in range with enemies after its 1 turn attack, it works well with flyers (but they can end up surrounded), rather well with fast Vans moving on turn 3, but won't with a slow walking mage...

What I ment was, you lose one of the 5 guarenteed chances to get a spell off you want.

It really depends what you are facing and how fast they are, often if you put them right up front they can do mistform and then fill the rest of the slots with shockwave.
