				 Re: OT: Stupid Stars!
My dad's favorite game is stars. Which is kinda funny, since at the time I played it a lot. I had to convince him that a game with low graphics could be fun...
Three months later, he's playing it every day and I've moved onto something else.

STARS! was my first space-based TBS, I still fire it up from time to time. |

				 Re: OT: Stupid Stars!
There was supposed to be an updated version called Stars Supernova. I visited the website often when I was in my last job, where I had high speed net access.
There were screen shots and feature lists, but apparently the developer was not able to find a publisher. A real pity. I played and played and played that game. I used to print out maps of my empire and hang them up in my cubicle at work.

Yes indeed Stars! was my first game of this type. I also kept track on Supernova, but when it was clear it wasn't going to be released I looked around for something else and found SE4. |

Wasn't their fault it didn't get published. I know why, but I don't want to be spitefull.

I think I used to play Stars. Wasn't that the one you "flung packets" in? Or something?

				 Re: OT: Stupid Stars!
Yes, I loved those mass drivers... especially when I used them for bombardment of enemy planets when I had too many minerals on my hands!
Perhaps with SE5's scripting engine we could fit mass drivers into the intel system... "Our planet Feznik V has been hit by something which was initially considered a rogue asteroid, killing 65M people and destroying 2 facilities, but upon further analysis seems to have come from the vicinity of the Tudran system." Then to fire these mass packets, you'd need a mass driver component installed in a system...

				 Re: OT: Stupid Stars!
Of course, had Feznik had a mass driver facility or station in the first place, you would have caught the packet and been a little richer. That'll teach those Feznikians to be proactive!
I seriously miss Stars! Been too long since I played the demo (Never could find the full version anywhere, and now I can't even find a copy of the shareware....) Oh well!
