Re: Should I buy SE5?
I'd buy it now. No game stoppers with the 1.25 patch and corresponding Balance Mod by Kwok. There are a few unpatched problems, all minor, you can look around for the list, but all in all, it's worth to play it now to learn it and have fun.
By the time you get to know what you are doing, I'll bet the AI scripts will be beefed up and give more of a challenge. As it is, AI isn't all that tough to kill off...

Wait, I have a question, if you were a beta tester didn't you already get a copy of the game? Or did you have to return it once you stepped down?

Yes, I did receive a copy of the game, and had been patching it up with the beta patches up until the time that I stepped down. In fact, if I felt like it, I could probably still go to the beta testing site, download all the patches and have myself a free game. However, I'd feel bad doing that, since I haven't contributed in recent months. Basically, I could, but I don't want to

Re: Should I buy SE5?
So patch it up and use that as a demo?

Aye, buy it--it's really a lot of fun now. Much better than the initial launch version.

Re: Should I buy SE5?
Alright, thanks a lot for all the answers guys.
One more question: How's the AI? Any good mods for it yet, if it sucks as much as the SEIV AI did?

Re: Should I buy SE5?
The Good: The SE5 AI is more moddable and theoretically should be able to give a much greater challenge. In fact it should be able to give a custom feel per species with custom this and that and so forth.
The Bad: Stock AI sucks; worse than SE4 Stock AI in fact!
The Ugly: Other than it being a pink colored font? Which is pretty darn ugly! Only Kwok, myself, and one other person whom I am not too familiar with is working on the AI at this time and given the shock factor [of looking at the files for the first time] it will be only us three for a while.

Re: Should I buy SE5?
Don't forget this key fact:
PBW supports SE5 games, so you can conveniently play against competent opponents.

I think you need to expand on this comment.
Are you responding to the titular question, or disagreeing with SJ's contention that SE V on PBW is convenient?
(I don't have an opinion yet, because I still don't own a system with the specs to run SE V.)
