I still have it on, but I really haven't played that much lately, and it still gets repetitive. Sometimes I turn it off, sometimes not.

I think DomII music did a little better as far as longevity goes. Perhaps I should copy some files over and rename them.

I agree : I prefer music of Dom2 than Dom3, and I play with music turn off now.

is there any way I can deal with the horrific sounds of 100 archers, or 30 Illithids? Even worse than elephants, though those suck on my system too, even at a sedate volume level.
Yeah, but there are some really fascinating sound effects. For example, killing amazons is very exciting. If you play it loud and kill a lot of amazons, you neighbours are just going to think you're repetitively looking at some porn/gang bang movies each evening. Don't be surprised then if they hide their children when they ear you climbing the stairs

Actually with your nickname, no surprise they hide the children... it is enough if they don't escape to Egypt

I play with the music on, but it does get a little grating after a while. I might look into some nice music for playing while playing the game soon.

Is there any way to mod the music? Bagpipes aren't exactly thematic for R'lyeh.

I wish we could. There's a ton of free community property music out there, a lot of it thematic. It wouldn't be hard-just time consuming-to set up a forum "mixtape". And I'd be thrilled if we could do nation-specific music.

Just turn off the in-game music and turn on your cd player or media player play list. At least in windows this works well and is what I generally do. I had one huge play list that included music from Wesnoth, Age of Wonders and several Bioware games (Never Winter Nights, Baulder's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc) that I used before my old system exploded in a great ball of smoke, fire and sparks.

Much easier than replacing the existing music files.

Yep yep, works fine on Linux too, and almost certainly on Mac.
