I am just trying to be upfront with you guys.

More than likely we will be around for a long time, but the economy is tough for most game companies now.

I have heard of a lot of layoffs in the gaming industry these Last few months.

That is very true. I hope economy will turn for better but there is change of serious recession in couple of years. Of course I'm not an economist but it feel like that.

Only 'beef' I got is that I just bought SEIV less than a week ago. But hey, such things happen. I bought MOO2 twice 'cause I lost the CD (and found it a few weeks later, go figure). No complaints here, just more of a statement really, had I been just a tad slower hearing of it...oh well

My question is: What will happen to mods?

It seems that we modders will have to make a two-tier mod, for those with and without.

Unless SE4 Classic is forwards compatible with Gold, and we can find a way to balance the game in both modes at once...

Well, the only major major major game balance change would appear to be the Drones.

the problem is there is going to be other changes that will require a second mod, like the secondary shipset names, the new quadrent types, etc..

Yes, or you can just do your mods for the Gold Version and not update your 1.49 compatible mod. You don't do 1.35 or 1.41 compatible mods anymore either.

There are changes to the data files that are going to make it impossible I think to make a one size fits all mod, even if you don't care about the play balance. I am thinking you'd get some errors trying to run the game. I'll have to try that out, but I'm pretty sure it's not gonna work.

I am broke, unemployed now, and on the verge of loosing everything, but I will gladly spend the money to have this GOLD Version.

I have no issues other than having to wait to get it.

Where do I send the check? (Order Page Please)

I played the demo back in the dim dark pre-shipping period. I only got around to ordering mine a few weeks ago, and still haven't had a chance to play it.

So part of me is a bit disappointed about that there is a new Version before I've even gotten the old one up.

The other side is that it's not like we're talking a major investment here. Furthermore it's not really Shrapnel's fault I've only just ordered it. Lastly it's not like the Version won't work now SEIV Gold is on the way. So I'm no worse off, I just may be missing out on some of the new cool things.

Given that the main reason I delayed ordering SEIV for so long was I was waiting until I had a big pile of games to save on shipping. I figure I can order SEIV Gold for the next round.

At the end of the day I tend to regard paying for games from the indie developers as being something akin to rent. If the small shops fold up what's left? RTS and FPS galore. Urgh.

I've been off the forum since Last week, (re-doing my kitchen) and am glad to see info about the gold addition. I do have some (probably stupid questions, but I don't have that much time right now to read up on everything) so pls bear with me.

1. Will this new addition over-write our old game or do we have to uninstall the old one or just load it as a brand new game?

2. I'm excited about the Mods addition to the Gold and I would like to know how this will work in the new cd. Will the computer generate those in the mods randomly or will we have to pick which of those races/mods we want to play from the main screen?

3. will the AI use invasions in the gold cd?

4. If we just send in the full amount do we still have to send in piece of the old one or whatever?

Tks, Like I said earlier, if these have already been addressed, I apoligize, its just that I don't have much time, at lease for the next 3-4 days to read up on everything.

tks

just some ideas mac

mac - some of us figured out how to get the AI to do invasions with the current Version. Check out the Space Vikings, Aquilians, and Space Orks.
