You may try to save the scenario after the massive Soviet artillery fires. Take the saved SpSv files and rename as scenario spscn files. Now, in the Editor, proceed with the scenario allowing for only a few arty smoke fires, say a platoon of FG popping off.

If this scheme does not work for you, let me know and I'll assist.

This does work you can save the map with the smoke on already on it.
Useful for simulating things like mist for a early morning river crossing.
