Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
I would hope that Lucas will release a directors cut. Perhaps then we can see the movie he wanted us too see.
I held no expectations going into this movie. Coming out of it I was glad for that.

Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
i did some thinking about what was really different from 4-5-6 to 1-2. there are lots of minor things that can be nit-picked, but what gets me is the scope of the films.
in 4-5-6 the characters are part of a larger rebellion, or part of a larger empire. you know that there are imperial govenors about, and that there are politics elsewhere that are important. each of the characters are playing a role in a bigger picture. the rebellion has lots of things going on that the main characters depend on.
in 1 and 2, the main characters have done everything. there is a larger government, but it is appearant that the government would not function without the handfull of characters in the foreground. its like we are watching a bunch of christ figures on whom the fate of the galaxy depends, and without whom the average people would just stumble arround and bump into walls.
if the main chrarcters did not exist in jedi, there would have been another rebel commando team and another xwing squadron to do the job. it just happens that the characters we were following became the heros of the day. in 1 and 2, it seems like there would be no plot, that the world its self would crumble into an unrecognizeable heap of ineptitude without the main characters. just look at how the senate reacts to the speach just before the endgame action starts.

Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
ok 32. Saw the first one in 77 at a drive in.
it was ok. maybe even a 7 out of 10.
The second one was fantastic. Character development... good story etc....
The third one sucked.
And then the new ones.
THe first one sucked and the second one had zero character development.
At least a little ship did not fly into a big ship and blow it up.
Cannot wait to see that in the third one.
I would like Lucas's movies alot more if I Akira Kurosawa did not make movies. The Star Wars series could have been so much more if Lucas didn't stick to the hollywood Version of Kurosawa's story telling.
Not enough darkness.

Im about 45 minutes south of San Francisco, and Novato is about the same distance north of it. I'll be happy to meet you in the city for a pint if you have some free time while your're in the area.

Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
I liked it. Sure some parts were boring and others had cheesy dialogue but it was still quite entertaining. I like the way the story is developing and even though I know what is going to happen, it's still interesting to learn the specifics. I'm not even a big Star Wars fan (more Star Trek really) but I think it's much better than the Episode I and I can't wait to the next one. The sounds and effects were incredible (esp. Corsucant!) and I only wish I could see it as intended in its digital form.
Oh yeah, the most important part...the ships were great - esp. the proto-star destroyers!!!

Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
Question to any other Lukes out there:
How often do you get people telling you "Use the Force." and "Luke, I am your Father."?
After all these years, almost every new person I meet will say either one within a few hours...

Re: OT: Star Wars Episode 2...
After I've FINALLY seen the movie I have these things to say, to particular group of people:
To everyone:
Yoda. Best. Jedi. Ever.
To Star Wars Geeks (and I mean the "Select" few):
It's a movie. It's fake. Get over it. And tell me the logic of this. You first fell in love with Star wars and you still see it. You've taken time out of your daily life, pay 12.50 to see it, wait in line, wait some more and you CRITISIZE IT?!
(Sorry. I need to get this off my chest after 3 obese star wars fanatics kept nitpicking and defacing the movie and kicking my seat for the whole duration of the movie... No offense.)
And to whoever may be offended:
I'm sorry.

most people i know with any measure of wit about them avoid saying it, because they are fully aware of how stupid it will make them sound. everyone else (i try to associate with witty wiseasses, but there are lots of witless masses out there) only gets the remark off once, after which they are usually shamed by a condecending frown.
its amazing how you can make someone feel utterly (and often appropriatly) without worth, without saying a single word. its not that i MIND starwars jokes, or even that i MIND people making fun of me. my nicknames PUKE for godsakes. I suppose that i just feel slighted when someone thinks that they deserve to insult me without putting any THOUGHT into it. I mean, look at the banter in the Phong's Head Cantina. GT and THG put some EFFORT into their daily smack-talk. Thats all i ask for, just a little effort. at least ask if my Schwartz is as long as yours, or if ive kissed my sister lately.
often people will ask if i ever hear starwars jokes about my name which, as far as i can tell, is my cue to deliver a stupid look and my best deadpan 'no.'
since im a young-un (1978, for those who didnt scroll through the entire 'how old are you' thread) the occasional genius asks if my PARENTS were starwars fans.. good god. i never know wither to look condesending or just plain disgusted at their ignorance on that one. When I can muster an answer instead of laughing at them, i try to tell them that 'no, they were infact fans of fictional literature about hay-soos, the guy the romans nailed to a tree'
so to sum it up, no Kwok, i think youre alone.

Forgive me the trolling an nitpicking: I'm fairly sure that you want to remove the "rt" from Schwartz and replace it with an "n" if size does matter.
