Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Hi,
TURN 4-8:
The small RECCE force follow the south dirt road.
US forces (Infantry and Half-track) are met and ambush.
The initial ambush is a big success: US H-T explode under our 12.7mm and many US soldiers died.
More US troop are coming and soviet RECCE forces have to fall back: Mayde this is the main US force...
We move 2 IS-3 to that part of the front.
US artillery start firing and we loose our first unit (White scoute car).
Thank you,
-Luc-

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Hi,
TURN 9-15:
Definitely, the US main forces attempts to pass to the south:
The heavy artillery bombardment is intense and we lose few soldiers there,
After the half-tracks, light and heavy tanks appear; but were is their infantry?
Our IS-3s and 85mm D-44 AT gun are ready. They destroy many units.
But they are so many than we cant stop them..
US artillery bombard all the time both hills (Central and south) and some units reach the central hill.
Soviet forces fight very hard...
Our IS-3 already have no more AT rounds; we have to move our engineers T-34/85 and ammo cannisters!
Thank you!

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Tanks with large caliber guns frequently have a limited ammo problem.
If you have the extended (i.e. CD) version of WinSPMBT you can use the "Filter" (hotkey 'Y') to set "Steel Armor Front MIN" to say 6 so your IS-3s will not fire on half-tracks thus save their AP ammo for tanks.

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Hi,
Nice advice Suhiir. Thank you!
TURN 15-
US forces try to open a new front in the north along the paved road.
Hopefully, we were ready and without a good US artillery preparation, our veteran destroy almost everythings.
However, during that fight, we loose few soldiers, 1 85mm D-44 and our T-34/85 BTU.
Ammo canisters can't reammo (MGs only) our IS-3!? This is a bad surprise!
The front is now almost quiet. Soviet forces are planing a small counter-offensive.
Easily, we take flag. They lost all the ground they won...
That's it, that's all what the US army can do!?
No... it's not finish, artillery start firing again...
Thank you,
-Luc-

Go to your "Preferences" screen and turn "ID Tags" on.
It has no effect on the spotting procedures used in the game; but it tends to easier for the player to see units on the map.

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Hi,
Turn 32-END
Few US tanks (M4A3E8) appear on the paved road; I dont know what we'll do...
US heavy artillery dont give us a rest!
With fresh infantries section, soviets successfully destroy them one by one with individual AT weapons.
It was the last attempt.
After that, only few US infantries units try to take the nearest flag without success.
They move foward and after, they retreat. They are enable to regroup and fight.
Soviet forces won at turn 60.
Thank you!

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Hi,
Analysis of the battle:
Again, US army has charged ahead and uncoordinated.
No recognition or preparation of the battlefield, no coordination between tanks and infantry.
Despite the fact that they are much more numerous, they never took a lot of terrain and did not much dommage to soviet forces.
***
The snow-covered terrain is difficult: units are slowing down a lot and get stuck often.
***
I am satisfied with my IS-3, even if they not carry a lot of ammo. Usually, when they hit, they destroy.
Hopefully, my 85mm AT was in back-up. They took a lot of damages du to US bombardement.
RPG-2 was helpfull too in close combat. Unfortunatly, they only have few ammos.
***
After the game was finished, I saw a lot onf US infantries in wood.
With a better coordination between every units, US forces have won that battle.
***
After 2 battles, I can say US army is the worst ennemy I have meet...
Thank you,
-Luc-

Re: CCCP vs NATO long campaign (1948-1991)
Generally speaking, that's a very common AI blunder: it seldomly does proper tank-infantry cooperation.
