Your position is quite clear, but I don't agree with it.

You example is of an issue in one community migrating to another, while this is an issue migrating within the same small community moving from one form of communication to another. pretty much like starting a conversation on the phone and finishing it on facebook.

I think Gandalf summed up quite well why it is specifically natural to discuss the wiki here, well spoken.

Regarding the so called flamewar, you could argue that settling on a praxis on how to do major edits in the wiki is worth a little flaming. Just like so many other issues need to go through a phase of conflict before leading to productive conclusions.

I think this discussion is quite good actually, it will hopefully help avoiding future drama on the wiki. A nice compromise would be to agree that the wiki rests upon the wiki principles, but you could still try and be a little bit thoughtful when replacing entire pages.

So we have two major contributions to the wiki as well as the fora (the guides and item tips), we also got a nice chance to discuss different perspectives on wiki editing courtesy and I even got a rare chance to agree with Gandalf Parker on something!

So we had a few harsch words and pouty lips during the process, big ****ing deal.

I don't really disagree with you in principle over most of the things you say. The reason I saw fit to make a statement about this thread is that similar discussions that in and of themselves are all right have suddenly taken turns for the worse and I saw the possibility of that happening here. If it doesn't happen, good, but I wanted to make sure.

Then there is the fact that as a moderator I'm somewhat more constrained by the policies Shrapnel has put in place on this forum, so I'm obligated to keep an eye on things I think are potential trouble spots. This one resolved itself pretty nicely, all told.
