Default ATF: Newbie needs biiiig help

Hie there.

I'm new to ATF and have tried to play the demo.
"How" the things work is clear to me (ok, the most of them), but I never managed to get any of my troops into Obj. Texas.

All my vehicles are burning wrecks way before getting near Texas.

I scouted with my scouts (obviously, isn't it ?) and took the first enemy outpost out with artillery.

Then I advanced further with my scouts and one of my heavy armors, but the defenders are too much for my force (even with my arty working really hard to save the day) and soon blue wreck markers litter the sand.

Are there any hints for a newbie from some of the grognards here on the forum, because even if it makes me try it over and over again, it is very frustrating on the other hand to get smashed to pieces all of the time.

Thanks for any hint,

Martin

Hello! It is always nice to see a new face! Death Valley Attack is a VERY challenging scenario and there are no pat answers. Some quick suggestions would be to try playing with the "Suppress" orders and also keep in mind that you can breach the minefield, or there are ways around...either way it can be a tough go. But I can direct you to some "hints."

We talked about this very scenario over at Warfare HQ's ATF forum! My assistant section leader was wrestling with that very scenario over the holidays and we got alot of input. Here are a couple of threads you may find useful and/or interesting that go in to much greater detail!

I appologize for the shameless plugs but to my knowledge our site is the largest resource and forum for ATF & BCT. We have a great pool of knowledge there, with topics ranging from help for newbies to complex scenario design issues. We also have usermade mods and scenarios for download! We welcome one and all. It would be great to see some new faces there as well!

Thank you NORAD for your reply.

I visited your links and found some very useful hints (which I'll have to try out as soon as I'm back from work).

TheWarfare HQ is a very interesting site and I'm sure, that I will visit it frequently from now on.

If I have any success (or improved my art in getting killed) I'll tell you.

Bye,

Martin
