Default Hello. I need your advice

Hello all,

I must admit this is a highly constructive message board. I'm quite impressed by the standards of intelligence here. Now my question is:
Is it possible for us gamers to change the actual size of the ships, i.e can we make them look a little bigger in battle?

I'm asking this because after playing the demo for a while I was very frustrated with the fact that my Cuiser looked kind of exactly the same as my frigate. I know the depth of this game makes up for its rather functional graphics but I expect battleships and perhaps Dreadnoughts to look bigger and meaner than, say, Destroyers!

I have to make a choice between getting Space Empires 4 or Armies of Armeggedon. If I can just make the ships LOOK like ships in Space Empires, I would get it without a second thought. I love its depth. Any comment or advice will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Leith

Well Leith, I've just started looking at the graphics files and have made a few abortive attempts at changing a few things to better suit my tastes. Therefore, while I'm no artist, I think I can answer your question.

The short answer is you can alter the graphics files, or make new, or additional ones if you want. That's the good news.

The bad news, at least as far as I can tell, and maybe someone else here will correct me if I'm wrong, is that the graphics images MUST be certain set sizes.

In the case of the combat image 'tile' that image MUST be no larger than 36 x 36 pixels.
That's the really bad news.

Several Posts I remember seeing a while ago were suggesting that MM change the combat game board somewhat so that you could have 1x2, 2x2, 2x3 and maybe bigger images. (1x2, etc. means 36x72, etc.) I have no idea whether or not MM will ever do that or when. Maybe some of the beta testers here might know.

In my opinion, buy the game and see what you can do with it. I've had all the SE Versions and loved them. This is possibly the best so far. The only other strategic level space games I've enjoyed as much have been the original "Masters of Orion"( not the semi-sucky MOO2) and good'ol "Stars!". "Spaceward Ho!" was also a good play as well as pretty funny too.

So, to wrap up all my blabbing ... Buy the game. You'll like it I think.

Hope this helps answer your questions.
