USY\'s Rating System Explained
Hi to everyone whos visited my site, I'm glad you do.
So far, I've not really had an aim with my site, other than to host ship sets which I think are worth downloading so you can play with them.
I think I'll make an appology for not ever visiting this message board since yesterday, and I've only just read the other post. (Shipsets from UniveralShipyards. . .)
But now I intend to clarify (I hope) a few things.
My rating system was brought around the other week because my 'complete' Se4 page was getting out of hand, and basically too large.
I grabbed a piece of paper, and wrote down a lsit of all the shipsets I had, and wrote down what I knew to be in them.
I didn't want to comment on their actually style of shipset, I could only comment on their content fairly.
The end rating system -'Gold', 'Silver', 'Bronze' and 'Not rated' is not entirely brilliant, as it doesn't comment on the quality of the AI scripts.
I do thing the EA shipset has the 'best' AI, but my silly rating system let it down to a silver because it didn't have EMP files, or a speech file.
In many respects the Silver Shipsets are as good as or better than the Gold ones.
Bronze are onyl worth downloading if your goign to play as/with the shipset you use, because your empire will end up fighting AI who all have Wave Motion Guns (In my experience).
::I wish I'd read that other post sooner::
Oh yeah, and if any one has a better idea to my rating system, please please, e-mail me! I want to provide some sort of service that'd be useful to you, and I can't be the one to trial and error ideas for you if you are going to 'complain'.
Happy Gaming,

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Markavians, welcome and thanks for the informative post. I personally really appreciate your nice site and spend quite a bit of time there looking at the shipsets. I must say I am very impressed by your own shipsets which are of high quality.
I hope you will consider posting for download some of the shipsets that are complete except for the AI files currently. There are a lot of mod developers here that can develop really top notch AI files for races (and do) but haven't the resources to develop their own shipsets. So, I think there is a big demand for just the shipsets alone for these mod/developer types to use with their AI files. This could develop into a nice symbiotic releationship between shipset developers and the race AI developers. I hope you'll consider this.

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Hi,
welcome to this board. First of all I would like to say that I like your site very much. I find it much more interesting then HB for example. Oh well..
Rating system
I think a short explanation such as the one you gave here on your homepage would be helpful. I think this would satisfy everyone.
Shipsets
Indeed I'm currently searching a shipset for my upcoming race, the Torons (they have nothing to do with B5, much more with the ISC from SFB).
It would be great to have some "free" shipsets as I know that at least Tampa is also in search for a shipset to use.

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Howdy!
I'll throw a 3d vote in for shipsets only. at least until I can figger out Moray myself
I like putting together the Ai scripts and the ships together but don't know 3d modeling...yet.
I, of course, would give due credit to the modeler.

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Hey, all those shipsets that don't aren't Online yet because they dont' have AI files. . . they should all have makers' e-mail adress' one them
All you budding AI developers out there - why don't you go and e-mail the designers and ask them if you can create a set of AI scripts for their race style!
Also, if you've seen the 'evens' fleet in the under-construction area, I don't actually have any race for them to 'be'.
I'm very happy for anyone and everyone to start designing AI scripts for them if you want. A lot of work needs to be done to the shipset, its not my favourite one, but I'll try.
Feedback and ideas on what I should do with that shipset are welcome as well. . .

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Well, one of the modders here was creating a machine based race and was lamenting the lack of a shipset for it (I think it was H.A.L.). The Evans shipset looks like one that a mechanical AI race might build.
As for me, I sure wish you could get that Ri'Chex shipset posted for download. Gods, I drool whenever I look at those pics.

Well, I think there is a shipset on US that is perfect for HAL. Space Oddessy 2001.
It is Designed for HAL, I think there IS HAL in it.

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Actually, I think that 2001 shipset sucks for playability in an actual game of SE4. Most of the ships look nearly identical to each other and I can't imagine being able to distinguish between them very well in the course of play. I know this is because there just weren't that many different ships in 2001 the movie but still, it's a badly designed shipset in my book. I'm picky, though.
I thought of H.A.L. when I saw it too but I figured he'd want something a bit better than that. I could be wrong.

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
I'm sorry to say that the Ri'Chex fleet you can see at US won't ever be able for download.
Due to a computer crash, and some sort of problem all the 3D model files were lost, and no mini's were ever created. This means that there is no chance of that fleet being created, the only option being the creator making a totaly new shipset -
I'm not keen on the Star Wars and 2001 shipsets. I don't like 'compiled' shipsets, some look tacky and mismatched.
I like all the others though. . .

Re: USY\'s Rating System Explained
Boy, now *that* is a cryin' shame. That was one sweet looking shipset. I hope the author does another one of similar style or can find his backup files for the set somewhere. That really has to hurt after spending all those hours working on the ship models.
Excuse me, I'm going to go backup my shipset's MDL files now.
