Shield Depleters- DevNull Mod Question
Quick question because I do not have the time to test it out. Do shield depleters attack the shield generator themselves (i.e. burn them out) or does it just go against the shields themselves (available shield points). Trying to come up with a heavy weapon platform that will nullify this empire that is attacking me. He loves shields to the point of insanity and I just want something that will burn out his generators quickly so that the rest of the weapons on the platform will do damage to the ship itself. Thanks for any help.

The Shield Depleting weapons area will do both: you will get Shield Depleters first (reduce Shield points, and only Shield points), and then Shield Disruptors (destroy the Shield Generator themselves).
The standard caveat for the Shield Disruptors: you need to do enough damage to take down one component per hit. If the weapon only does 30 damage points, it will not be enough to destroy a Shield Generator at 40 hitpoints, regardless of how many times you try. Shield Disruptors also have a low range and are very expensive, at least in the vanilla game (it is the same in Devnull, if memory serves).

That is what I needed. Basically, the only reason I would use them would be a Massive mount on a large weapons platform. 5x damage and +7 range. So it looks like I am going to need to go through a couple more areas of the tech tree to get to the disrupters. The empire attacking me places 7 to 8 shield generators on his BB and DNs and it is a pain to try and weed through that, even with massive mounts. But hopefully the 45 large weapon platforms with massive quantum V torpedos and 1000 fighters on the next planet he is attacking will put a dent in his fleet.

Using the Shield Depleters will really tear through his shields, though.
Count out just enough to strip one of his ships, and then put your choice of hull-busting weapon to fill the rest of your space.

Not really on topic, but ramming ships are a low tech way to ignore shields. They will attack the ship parts inside the shields.

Not really.
The ramming ships do not get the benefit of shields.
But the Ram-ee does get to use their shields.
When you ram somebody, you do "Normal" damage, and they do "Skips All Shields" damage back.
