SE4 Deluxe
Just recently I've noticed a few oblique references on this forum to a final patch for se4, or "se4 deluxe".
I assume this is another of Atrocities' little jokes, but that thin sliver of possibility is just too much to bear.
Would someone pleae put me out of my misery and tell me the truth about this rumour?

Re: SE4 Deluxe
SE:IV Deluxe will be the retail version of SE:IV Gold 1.91 to be released by Strategy First as sort of an introduction to the Space Empires series along with Star Fury.
There will be a patch to update Gold users to Deluxe, but whether this patch will change anything other than the intro screen and music system is not known - but we're still hoping for a little patch to fix some of the more major outstanding bugs.

Re: SE4 Deluxe
Oh I see. I think.
I assume they are changing the intro screen because of the change of publishers, but why does the music need to be changed?
Also, if any bugs do get changed, then presumably deluxe won't be version 1.91.
And I'll definitely be able to patch for free?
And you're sure this isn't Atrocities winding us up?

Re: SE4 Deluxe
The patch will definately be free, and perhaps the version number might be different. The music system is likely being switched to use .mp3s rather than CD audio...
There is a news item at the Strategy First website, and some of my information is based on a post made by Aaron in the SE:V beta.

Re: SE4 Deluxe
Speaking of access to the beta forums....
Have you seen any mention of where the official SE:V forums will be? The one that Strategy First links to? It seems as though most of the developers they have over tehre create their own forum somewhere else and Strat-1st links to it. And after hanging around the leftover ones that are still on the Strat-1st machines I can DEFINETLY see why any developer would flee from there. Its getting so difficult to continue checking there every day for a dribblet of news.

Re: SE4 Deluxe
I think the music is being changed to save space on the CD for one, plus allowing .mp3's in general is just a good idea.

No official word as of yet. I do not think that Aaron is too concerned about forums given the pilitheration of SE related web sites like SE.net (With a forum) and the forums here on this site, which have served as the foundation for official, now unofficial SE related communication and discussion for nearly five years now.

Re: SE4 Deluxe
Yeah but Strat-1st seems to require one. And Aaron will do his own game a huge dis-service if he allows them to just whip off a default one on their system which they link to as the "official" forum. He can create one, use one of the services such as some of the other developers there have done, declare one of the fan sites, whatever (probably not this one).

I want ogg! mp3s are obsolete.
