Palettes and Shp editing
Two questions:
1)My edited shp file appears in ShpEd as some grey lines and squiggles which bears no resemblance to the beautifully crafted graphic I spent hours editing. what might I have done wrong?
2)I see in the design folder there are a choice of different palettes, a note in the graphics folder says "The ONLY .PAL file you should use with SHPEdit and the WinSPMBT SHP files is WinSPMBT_Palette.pal", pretty catergorical but, I cant get Paintshop pro to load WinSPMBT_Palette.pal.
Can I use JASC_WINSP_ICON_PALETTE.pal...ok, I probably already answered that question above, but i thought I would ask?

Re: Palettes and Shp editing
Ok, I think i have an answer to my first question, The problem seems to be with the palette I used in paintshop pro to edit the bmp. I must use WinSPMBT_Palette.pal.
Problem is Paintshop pro doesnt see WinSPMBT_Palette.pal so cant load it.
anyone got a palette I can use in paintshop pro?
or an alternative solution?

Re: Palettes and Shp editing
Dunno, never used PSP, never used the palette in an image editor, only thing I do to keep track is to export the palette screen from SHPed and use that to pick the colors from. That is the uncomplicated (zero IQ) way!
As Don said, not using the game palette at all can lead to some surprises when compressing to SHP.

Re: Palettes and Shp editing
Thanks for that Plasma,
I have another workaround for not being able to load the palette in paintshop pro, I convert a shp file to a .bmp and then edit that using only the colours already present in the bmp. I can then make a shp file which displays correctly.
Next problem,
adding my new shp file to the games shp files.
I have read the manual a hundred times and I cant get it to work. How do i do it?
Any chance of someone writing a step by step idiot guide to using Shped specifically with WinSPMBT?
If I can answer all these questions i will write it myself.(..like the rest of this thread )

Re: Palettes and Shp editing
There's a wee bit of confusion here.........
1] WinSPMBT_Palette.pal located in the Graphics folder is the palette that SHPEDIT uses that is NOT a PSP palette file
2] The palettes you want are located in the \Game Data\Design\Palettes folder and the Icon palette is JASC_WINSP_ICON_PALETTE.pal and that **IS** a PSP palette (JASC = PSP)
3] "grey lines and squiggles" sounds like the wrong sized SHP but the best solution would be to attach the SHP file in question AND your original artwork and I'll be able to instantly tell you what you have done wrong
4] "Any chance of someone writing a step by step idiot guide to using Shped specifically with WinSPMBT? "........No. there isn't. The technique for adding files to SHPedit have not changed with WinSPMBT.

Re: Palettes and Shp editing
of course where it says load steel.pal....load winspmbt.pal instead.
