Research n Sats
I know the idea for a research component must have been thought of somewhere. This is a slightly different idea, though:
All satellites add one point to research.
"Why?"
Because they are satellies!
Satellites should contribute to "education" (TV and Internet for instance) even though they have large weapon mounts on them.

Re: Research n Sats
Since I'm on a posting frenzy:
I would like to see Satellites that have the ability to move on their own - maybe add a scanner and some stealth capability and spy on my neighbours...+

Re: Research n Sats
I think that's what drones are about (when they get immplemented) - kind of like mobile satellites.
As for the educacation - I know it's a tired thread but I think a research component for ships / sats would be a great idea- you put the component in the same sector as various stellar phenonomonomen to get extra research points.

If I see the average TV programs I have my doubts about their education benefits !
But seriously: forget about the possibility to introduce facility abilities to components: they will not work!

Seriously,
I have already forgotten it - why I previously stated that this idea was slightly different:
All Satellites Improves research by 1 point EACH
There are no components involved in this idea.
The research point comes from the SATELLITE itself the turn after it has been built.
I got the idea from a documetary on TV where they explained how millitary, science and media co-operated with the use of sats.

I like it Lucanos. It makes sense and provides added incentive to buils sats. Plus it would probably be an easy hardcode change.

Re: Research n Sats
MM should be able to make an ability to parallel the robo-miners, a "robo-research miner" component, which you can sit in outer space.
Then, you assign a value to each sector, such as:
empty space= 1 RP
planet = 2 RP
star = 3 RP
warp point = 4 RP
black hole system = 50 RP (since the sat will only Last 3 turns!)

I like this idea, but it needs a better name. IMO, robots aren't capable of the mental leaps research needs beyond raw data gathering. If robots could do research, the Viking lander would have been able to settle what the life experiments were actually seeing.

I still doubt that this is possible because you will have to use a facility abilty. However if I am wrong and it works please post it. I would be most interested.

Yes, I understand you concern, and it would be a bummer if you couldn't place facilities in starships - but whattabout robominers? Isn't that also like a facility ability?
