Re: question on entering magic sites
well there are no sites that release poison... though there are sites that may cause disease. These will do so weather you have found them already or not.
the sites that you can enter generally give you free troops.

Re: question on entering magic sites
Perhaps you mean "Searching for magic sites"? Entering always gives a very specific description, like "Enter to summon a Shade". Searching allows you to find sites that are hidden, but low enough in level for the specific mage to find. Neither one can ever have negative consequences.

Re: question on entering magic sites
The majority of sites just give you gems, and you don't have to enter them.
Some sites let you enter them. The effects are varied. Some examples: increased experience, summon troops, scrying, etc. The description of the site will tell you what it does.
You will see a new order on commanders that are able to enter the magic site when they are in that province.

Re: question on entering magic sites
the only real "drawback" to consider is whether or not to tie up a mage (usually its a mage) in that province. If it requires a death mage to summon undead then
A) do I have a death mage?
B) is it a long walk?
C) is it a low-level one I can spare?
D) should I build a lab there so I can use the mage for something else once in awhile such as research or forging?

Re: question on entering magic sites
Everytime I have found a death related troop site I have also found Seraphs. Luck of the irish I guess (though I'm not irish).

Re: question on entering magic sites
There's a wide variety on the quality of things you can summon by entering sites. The Bowl of the Lost gives you free banes, while some sites give you free soulless or similar crap that only has a use as a meat shield for taking a couple of missile volleys. The Jungle Temple gives you free lamias, a couple of places give draconians and so forth, but most summon sites are either soulless, ghouls or longdead.
You can see what and how much you can summon for free from certain sites by consulting the magic site DB (downloadable from Arryn's site).
