Hello to everyone I am new to the series..
Hello Friends,
Well I found this game by accident last night and after reading about this game I instantly fell in love with it. I'm a true player when in comes to RPG turn based and as the years have waned thou they have become fewer and fewer. Thank god someone out there still feel the way we do, so to the game designers of this game a big hearted Thank you!!!!!
Now onward to my questions
I have orderd this game last night and Im running throu the demo and had some questions about the demos game play.
I know I can only play in the early ages, but as i was playing I cannot research anything, I donot know how to build things such as a castle, or improvements for the land, I know how to recruit and put my armies into the cities and to their commanders.
So I guess what Im asking is can anyone help me out with the basics, like to to research, how to build up my territories, how to make items and the such. I am playing the Demo so i dont know if these features are in the demo, I would thing they would have put something in there, but please let me know otherwise.
Thank you for the help, and Im looking forward to many sleepless night playing this Gem!!!

Welcome Demetrious3030!
I think the demo comes with a walkthrough that could answer many of your initial questions. Also, once you get the game, the manual is quite good and answers many, many questions.
Then of course the folks on the forum are always happy to give advice.

Re: Hello to everyone I am new to the series..
There is a tutorial. It comes with the demo. You can find it from under Game Tools, but you also need to read (and perhaps print) the text file describing what you are supposed to do and why. I think the tutorial file is in the \doc\ folder of your main demo folder; it's in the manual of the full game.
You should be able to research in the demo. To be able to order a mage to research, you need to have a mage in a province with a laboratory. Your starting province has a lab, and you can recruit various mages from there. You can see what you are researching by choosing Magic, then Research from the buttons in the right.
You have to research construction before you can build most items. Some paths can't build any items before research in Construction. Others, like Nature, can forge few weapons. Earth can forge simple weapons, shields, helmet and armor.
There are only three kinds of buildings: fortresses, laboratories and temples. Anyone can build a castle, but they take time and are quite expensive. To build a lab, you need a mage, and for a temple, you need a priest. Speaking of priests: appoint a prophet. Usually, you want to have a prophet from very early, and thus appoint your starting commander a prophet. Some nations might want to choose a tough commander, or a strong priest, to make a prophet, but your starting commander will do in most cases. Script your prophet to cast spells, and he can Smite your enemies (it does nice damage) or boost the morale of your troops.

Yep, the demo allows you to do all of the basics. You can research up to level 4, but the highest level is 9.
You will love this game, may I suggest experiementing with magic, as it is wonderfully implimented in the game, but occasionally subtle.
You might also want to learn about Super Combatants, often Pretender Gods who become super powerful in combat. There is nothing quite like destroying a large enemy army single handed! It is a also a nice way to power early expansion and build up your territories.
Enjoy!

Welcome Demetrious! It is a great game, it will steal yr life away.
The demo allows u to do everything the full game does, but there is a limit on nations playable and a turn 40 limit, can not play after that.

Re: Hello to everyone I am new to the series..
Theres also a rather strict magic limit. Once you get the full game and can get higher level spells and items you will be in love with this game (if your not already).
I can still (not much though) remember the joy i felt when i recieved my copy of dominions 2(which i also stumbled upon by accident) and, later when i discovered this forum my enjoyment increased even more and, as far as i can tell ive played dominions 2 far more than any other game i have (warcraft 3 and a few old n64/gameboy games may come close though)

I think I have the answer to your questions. On your left when looking at a province you see your commanders and thier current orders. By clicking on the order you can give them diffrent orders. Do not confuse this with clicking on the commander icon which just selects the commander. The order is on the lower part on the icon, as default is defend unless you are moving the commander.
