New Dominions and new Mac user
I recently purchased my first mac and my first copy of dominions. I followed the instructions to just drag the .exe file over into a mac folder to start the game. No problem there, but every time I start the game, it asks me for my cd key. Is this normal? Shouldn't I have to do this just the first time I log on?
Second question, how do you install the patch on the mac? I downloaded the patch and tried to get it to execute but it appears nothing happened. By just dragging over the .exe file, it's like I never installed the game. Is the game, when it boots up looking for the patch? What do I need to do to insure the patch is being implemented.

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
I think there's a readme with the patch install.
basically it's a little awkward: you control-click on the Dom3 icon and select "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu. that'll open up a window which has folders like the ones in the patch. drag over the contents of the patch folders (not the folders themselves) to patch.
Have fun with the Mac and with the game! and welcome!

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
And as for your first question, yes, that isn't normal. The game creates a "dominions3" folder in your home directory and stores the key in a file named "key". If the folder exists but the key file doesn't, check that you have permissions to write to the folder. If the folder doesn't even exist, you would also have trouble saving games, so I'm guessing it does exists.
If the key file is present, maybe it's gotten corrupted. Try deleting it and see if the game re-creates it.
That's all I can think of. Post again if that doesn't work or you need more details.

Thank you for the help. I think I got it figured out now. New question, do you have problems right clicking wit the mouse? I have the secondary button on my mouse assigned to a right cclicck, but it's difficcult for me to get the effect of a right click.

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
What mouse are you using?
What are you trying to do with the right click?
Are you in Full Screen or windowed mode?

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
Whoops...more questions.
wired or wireless... I have seen the problem on a wireless mighty mouse that had out of date software running.
Borrow a PC USB scroll mouse and plug it in. That will tell you if it is in the mouse's switch or at the I/O level of OSx. I have a Microsoft mouse on mine with no problem.

I'm using a wired mouse. I don't have a problem in other programs (or at least very rarely).

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
Hi Varangian:
I have a mighty mouse on my iMac. I have no trouble right clicking with it in Dominions. I tend to play in windowed mode, but I did not have any problems with full screen either.
Sometimes I find that right-clicking with the mighty mouse can be picky if you are not holding the mouse just right, which is a bit annoying.
My trouble when I first got a Mac last year was patching Dominions. I needed to change the permissions. Post if you're still having trouble with that.

Re: New Dominions and new Mac user
I agree with PashaDog. The Mighty Mouse is not Apples best product. Office Depot had a basic $7 Microsoft mouse that worked as well as the MM (didn't look as neat).
Also check out the trick of holding down the scroll ball to drag the map. Does that work? It does with my mouse.
I started using the windows mode all of the time. I have to trick the window to reproportion by clicking the green (minimize/maximize) button. This allows me to see button over messages at the bottom of the screen.
