Re: What exactly is this game??
At the top of this forum is a stickied post called "Reviews and Post-Relase Press" which is a good place to start. Those are the articles done by professional gamers at professional gamer magazines. They will have good and bad points plus lots of screen shots.
If you end up with specific questions after that, we wil gladly answer them.

Re: What exactly is this game??
Well...essentially its a fantasy strategy wargame that draws upon mythology from all around the world. This makes it a very, very original fantasy game.
Play the demo but follow the walkthru or you will be confused!

Re: What exactly is this game??
Actually, I did feel that totalwar had a similar 'feel' to it. The total war games emphasize the tactical combat though while dominions is really about the strategic level. I'm very fond of both... I'd love to see dominions-world battles using the total war battle engine, but I don't think we can expect that even in doms4!

Re: What exactly is this game??
If you're familiar with total war, yes, there's some similarity between the strategic map portions, although Dom3 is much more in depth.
In terms of tactical battles, Total War has greater depth and allows more direct interactivity.

Re: What exactly is this game??
Except one major factor with regard to Total War. This is PBEM capable. And that makes ALL the difference. AND the developers did it right. Instead of each nation taking sequential turns, they take simultaneous turns.
