Multiplayer with mods
Hi fellas,
Both a friend and I searched around and we couldn't find the answer to this: How do you use mods in a multiplayer game? We've each got our own nations we'd like to use, but for the life of me I cannot figure out to activate it for a multplayer game.
I'm pretty sure someone here knows the answer
Thanks!

Re: Multiplayer with mods
You both need to have the mods and probably have to have enabled them in the preferences as normal. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. I know it is the mod files on the server's install that are actually used, but everyone needs to have the .dm file and graphics and whatnot - if the client has a slightly different version it can cause problems, since they'll see things differently from the 'actual' copy used by the server.

Re: Multiplayer with mods
Yeah, hmmmm. I'm pretty sure we all have the mods, but, for example, my nation doesn't show up in the list. Its enabled on the server and the two clients. I'll double check later and see if the problem clears up. Really strange though.
Thanks for the reply

Re: Multiplayer with mods
You should also make sure that the mods don't overlap. Open the .dm files, and check that the #newnation XY numbers aren't the same. Changing the numbers shouldn't be hard if that's the problem.

Re: Multiplayer with mods
Hi again fellas..
OK, I've absolutely verified that all players are using the same version of the mods. Now, I didn't notice this earlier. My friend is using Windows -- the nation shows up correctly on the server and for him. But not for me. I actually copied all my data files from the server to my machine and it still doesn't exist on my (linux amd64) client.
Perhaps a bug?

EDIT: The server is Linux 32bit.

Re: Multiplayer with mods
Make sure that you have enabled the mods from the Preferences menu, and that you have patched your Dominions version. It sounds very strange.

Re: Multiplayer with mods
Are you sure they're all in the same age? You know, simple things first.

Re: Multiplayer with mods (SOLVED.. sort of)
Hmmm, ok I got it working.
I had to create a single player game using my mod on each of the computers, then it magically showed up in the multiplayer. Really strange, but it does work now.
Not sure what this was all about..

Re: Multiplayer with mods (SOLVED.. sort of)
It is a large problem.
MODs do not work well with online multiplayer games. New nations do not show up.
The best answer so far is setting the game up manually as if it was a PbEM game (Play by EMail). Once the game is started, it can be played online normally and the new nations will show up in everything.
The problem is that mods are not looked at until the machine is creating the world. Not in the signup phase. Its also a problem with the map commands. Such as, a map can set a nation as AI but the game doesnt see that until the game starts. So a player would be allowed to signup as that nation, then the game starts and that player is kicked out to be replaced by an AI
