Default Spell Fatigue for 100+ spells

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but I'm wondering how to calculate fatigue for a bf spell that requires gems to cast.

Does the number (say 100 for some standard battlefield summons) get entered into the ((1/(1+skill-requirement))*fatigue)+encumbrance calculation, or does the use of a gem change the "fatigue" number you calculate on?

So an A1 mage casting Summon Lesser Elemental:
((1/1+2-1)*100)+enc = 1/2*100+enc = 50+enc

Is this right?

(I set requirement to 2 assuming the gem gave him the level...or would he need to spend 2 gems to get that benefit? 1 for the spell, 1 for the level boost, which an A1 mage couldn't do because he can only use as many gems as he has levels.)

Thanks.

With out looking up specifics...

Base Fatigue/100 = number of gems required to cast, always.

This does not change with boosters, magic scales, or anything. However, a mage can consume an additional gem beyond the spell's requirements, and this will raise their magic skill by 1, which may be necessary to cast the spell at all, or that extra level will divide fatigue.

The amount of fatigue felt by the mage, however, WILL change depending on magic level, drain scales, and encumbrance.

P.S. Also note a mage can not use more gems then they have skill in a path. So, using an A1 mage to spend two gems to cast a 200 fatigue, A2 spell is a no go.

Any gems needed to cast the spell do not count towards raising the caster's level.

So your A1 mage would use 1 gem and (1/(1+1-1)*100)+enc = 100+enc fatigue
An A2 mage using 1 gem would get (1/(1+2-1)*100)+enc = 50+enc fatigue
An A2 mage using 2 gems would get (1/(1+3-1)*100)+enc = 33+enc fatigue
etc...

Thanks, that answered it.

A soon as I'd posted my question I remembered the gem-use limit.

To continue thejeff's example.
An A3 mage using 1 gem would get 33+enc fatigue
An A3 mage using 2 gems would get 25+enc fatigue
An A3 mage casting Summon Lesser Elemental cannot use 3 gems.

The reason for this is mentioned briefly in OmikronWarrior's post. This confused me when I first got the game, so I'll put a slight emphasis on him. I messed up in my first MP match several months ago, due to misunderstanding gem use.

"However, a mage can consume _only one_ additional gem beyond the spells requirements"

Lazy Perfectionist, I think you are really wrong. I think the correct version is you can only spend one gem to raise your caster level. Additional gems still reduce fatigue.

I might be- I remember a Developer post on the subject, but I can't find it for the life of me. Brownie points for the first one to find it.

I really need to find the time to update my Strategy index...

You are on track. Max nbr of gems are mage lvl. This includes casting cost and increase lvl cost.

thejeffs example is correct.

Furthermore:
A mage can only use one gem to empower himself during a casting. This is the only way for him to reduce fatigue. He will not use more gems then one to reduce fatigue, and fatigue is only reduced as a side effect of him being temporarily more powerful.
