Default Common Questions

Since the same questions keep coming up, I thought I would troll back through the threads and post some of the ones I found with links to the original discussion where possible. Please add any I have missed.
How do I....
Please read the game guide. It contains a huge amount of information - some that even the old-timers forget.

You are wrong about unit xxxx...
I want to add the unit xxx to OOB yyy

Use the forum search function to see if this problem has been addressed before. Use Mobhack to make any personal corrections or additions. Post in the appropriate forum using the format specified and preferably with solid supporting documentation to request a correction.

How do I add extra armour, different armament, reduced squad sizes etc to a scenario?
Use the scenario editor.

Why don't large calibre AA guns shoot at aircraft?

As to why we dont bother with high level bomber AA guns firing in barrage mode:
- use of level bombers is extremely rare. (the level bomber class was really only introduced for "flying artillery" scenario use e.g in the Normandy attacks).
- The use of level bombers over the front lines will be well out of range of any medium and higher calibre guns, which woud be way back covering divisional and higher operational or strategic targets (railheads and so on).
- There is no way to code for director-only barrage fire. It could be done, but it is not worth the time and effort, as any such guns would be dead weight unless the opposition brought level bombers to the party, and even if they did - the bombers will be there and gone in a move or 2. As I stated above - the level bombers are there for scenario designers to use in specific tactical-use scenarios where loads of bombers prepared the battlefield. In all these cases, having special heavy AA (which would not be there, or the bombers would not be used so) and the code would be worthless additions so that maybe 1 of 60 odds bombers just might be hit.
The code should be changed to allow effect X or unit Y. Why won't you do it? It should be simple.
Why can't armour be listed in mm?

The source (CPP and H) is over 6Mb for all the sub projects.

The problems with using a larger variable in legacy code are legion. This code was written in the 90s to fit 386 PCs with 1MB memory, and where disk access was slow, and in any case MSDOS did not provide disk paging virtual memory swap file like windows does. So bytes and so on are common. Object oriented code not used, as back then the space for OO bloated things too much.

How high is a height 1 hill?

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...b=5&o=&fpart=1

Quote:
... a level 1 hill is 10 units, and a slope would be 5 Units. Both are higher than a vehicle.
Whatever a "unit" happens to be, it is not defined, other than a level 2 hill is higher than a level 1 hill. ...
Why can jeeps and other small vehicles carry so many troops?

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...b=5&o=&fpart=1
Quote:
The default size of the headquarters happens to be 6, so there needs to be the ability to carry them.
What are the victory points ratios required for each of the vicory levels?

Points are scored for both capturing victory hexes and destroying enemy units.

Player 1 points vs Player 2 points
Decisive Victory 10:1 +
Marginal Victory 2:1 to 10:1
Draw 1:2 to 2:1
Marginal Defeat 1:2 to 1:10
Decisive Defeat 1:10 +

After a quick head count, I think we need to raise the jeeps carry capacity from 106 to 107
