Levels of Poptype randomness?
Hi all,
I was just wondering how truly random poptype selection is when generating a map. I could not find any information on how poptypes are chosen in the DB, but while perusing it one day I did come across some poptypes I had never seen before (i.e. Asmegs, vaetti w/ dwarves, toad tribals) or had never seen randomly placed (trolls, regular vaetti)
And before any asks, yes, I did use the search function, but could not find anything relating to this topic.

Re: Levels of Poptype randomness?
The poptypes are definetly tied in to both Era, and Terrain.
But they are also modifiable with map commands. Leif created a number of scripts back in Dom2 that people could run to create very different worlds. If you have a preference its not hard to write something to give you a personalized map with more of some and less of others you tell us.

Re: Levels of Poptype randomness?
Some poptypes have been used in special provinces in spesific Dom:PPP or DomII maps, and aren't usually available. Others are just extremely rare.

Re: Levels of Poptype randomness?
The common Trolls & Vaettir poptype (61) that allows recruitment of normal trolls and vaettir is randomly available but it is just very rare. I actually had a province with that poptype right next to my capital in LeafNosedBat. And to add insult to injury, the Troll Pit site I found was in the same province!
I have never seen poptype 66 which only has vaettir in it, but it could be very rare like 61. I've seen 61 three times total, once win Dom-PPP, once in Dom2 and once in Dom3. Poptypes 67, 70 and 71 which have Vaettir with the Dwarven Smith or Svartalf or which have pure trolls are not randomly available but can be added to a map file with the #poptype <nbr> command. The same is true of the Asmeg poptype (69).
All other poptypes can appear randomly, though the Toad tribals are about as rare as the trolls and vaettir in my eperience.

Re: Levels of Poptype randomness?
Thanks, Edi.
I think I have gotten the pure vaettir (66) once, maybe twice. It could have been 61, but I don't think I actually conquered the province.
