How do I colonize different plant types?
I am playing a game right now and my people are rock oxygen humans.
So I researched gas planet colonization and it took about 10 years to research that so when it's finally done I build a gas colony ship, head on over to a gas planet, and tried to colonize it but it wouldn't let me, it said, unable to colonize.
So what am I doing wrong? Is there something else I need to research?
I am a newbie so please bear with me.

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
also if you are colonizing another system, you must upload colonists onto your colony ship. If you don't have them, when your ship arrives it won't colonize because you don't have any people on it and you will get message unable to colonize.. good luck

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
?!?!?!?!?!
I've never had a problem colonising with no cargo. You just get a domed colony with population zro, and a corresponding build rate of zero. All you need to do thn (although it is a pain in the arse) is fly a cargo ship out there with some ppl on board.
you're right though, you should always check your colonisers for population before sending them out in to the unknown. It's easy to forget.

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
Can you imagine that happening in the real world? You send a colony ship to a new planet, and only after arriving do you realize that you forgot the colonists! Like "Home Alone," magnified by millions.

Hehehe - Home Alone VII: McCauly Culkin (sp?) fends off a Rage Annihilator Fleet using only some paint cans, two boxes of nails, a length of rope and a tube of toothpaste.

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
When I first played SE4, I learned the hard way on the colonizing asspect. Built colony shp in system, no problem colonizing, when I went out system, I tried colonizing, and it wouldn't let me, Loe and behold after much hair pulling and #*&^%$, It dawned on my feeble brain, I forgot to put people on it when going out system (blush, blush) had to go back load people then go back and instant colony, Oh well, I guess when you get my age the lst thing that goes is the brain waves.....

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
Everything you've done should work. Just check that your gas coloniser design isn't quipped with a rock colony component. (I've made that mistake before now)
The only other possibility (the most probable one) is that you clicked "only colonise own planet type" during game setup. If that's the case, there's nothing much you can do about it until you start another game.

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
Hey Mx1, I got your ICQ mail, and tried to respond, but your email account had problems. The info you asked about, the Trek Mod, can be downloaded from the PBW site, a link to which is on my index page of my site. (Click the link below my signature.)
I agree with DS, if you have the technology, but the game is not allowing you to colonize, then perhaps it is as he said.
Or, your are trying to colonize a ROCK planet with a Gas Coloney ship, or a Gas planet with a Rock Coloney ship. Check that first.
Good luck.

Re: How do I colonize different plant types?
Ok, thanks for your help guys. I got the trek mod and just found out why I couldn't colonize, LOL, you were right I put a rock colony on it and didn't notice it.
