3.5 Patch Arty
Well had a little play this is a big diffrence I think for the better but it will take some adjusting to.
If the FOO has no LOS a movement of 1 hex seems to carry a 0.3 penalty then a 0.7 penalty so adjusting is very costly.
I am assuming the premise is if he has no LOS he is unable to adjust as has no idea if on target anyway. A good compromise as can still shift slightly to cover an area but cannot chase.
From breif play this means you have to guess where he will appear far more acuratly as "walking it towards target" is no longer effective.
Things generaly need more tubes plotted at stopping spreading all over the map & things like counter battery fire vs SP units if survive they can relocate without chasing, you now need to target seperate tubes on where you think they might move to.
So probably far more realistic well done Andy Don predicting where your opponent is going is now very important getting within a few hundred metres won't cut it any more unless you have LOS.

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
An update if you do not have LOS even keeping routed units under the guns is not possible as they move to fast. have to replot & hope they dont recover.

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
You should also be aware that any large bombardment will, over time, kick up enough smoke and dust to block any LOS you may have had at the start of the bombardment

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
Hi Don & Andy,
I have a question about CB. Suppose an arty unit lose contact while being idle, can it still be able to do CB?

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
If it already had a CB target it would fire but if it hadn't aquired one it wouldn't while OOC

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
Infantry riding tanks, do at your peril in front line. I don't use much but guy playing had 3 tanks in adjacent hexes with scouts riding & an infantry squad on the ground in one of the hexes.
I fired my MG at the squad with the hope it would suppress the tanks a bit before mine fired. 2nd burst got half a scout 3rd burst hit everyone. End result 1 dead in squad on the ground but all 3 scouts took heavy casulties total of 6 or 7 men.
You have been warned.
I think riding trucks has also become even more of an unhealthy passtime, might just be me but seems like passengers killed more often if the truck survives.

Re: 3.5 Patch Arty
Concur with Imp,
Before 1944 Russian Troops riding tanks when hit with fairly accurate 20mm AC or MMG would at best bail maybe with some problems or worst 10 to 13 men would seem to be able to huddle behind the turret thumbing their noses at me!! Now the AC/MMG fire sweeps them off the tank with a minimum heavy suppression and or mostly dead, plus it seems to give any riders on near by tanks the idea that this has become an unhealthy place to be and they disembark as well. Very satisfying!!
