Worst Combat Experience
Try to top this one.
Sim Game. 1.41 PBEM
Fleet Make up. 15 Battleships 20 Heavy Cruisers. vs 5 computer BattleShips. Relativly equal on tech. And My fleet is 20/20 on the experience.
All battles occured during one month turn
First battle. I lose 2 Heavy cruisers and my leader is wounded ( all the engines ) The computer loses 3 battleships.
2nd battle. My ships sit in formation while the computer moves in and takes out the Right side of my flank. They move in range fire there weapons and then move out of range. My ships sit their in formation. I lose 2 ships. Computer 0
3rd battle. Computer nicely redistributes the fleet into formation and the previous battle repeats.
4th to 10th battle. see third battle.
11th battle. Computer finally kills the leader freeing up my Last ship to finally move and die.
Myself. Bitter, I just watched the replays and watched My biggest fleet get wiped out.
Needless to say. My new strategy is break formation on contact.
\
But I am very bitter. I looked at the stragety for that fleet and could not find the little check box to change the fleet into Star Wars Red squad.

Re: Worst Combat Experience
A large number of ships, mostly light cruisers. I had phased equipment, and was retrofitting the fleet's weaponry.
Another player with inferioir (even before the upgrade) ships comes in and blows the entire fleet away with no losses.

Re: Worst Combat Experience
My worst ever was way back in SEIII. I had just started playing and did not read the description of the Point defense cannon, only saw the range and damage in the chart. Sent a fleet of PDC only ships against a fleet with DUC's. DOH!
More recently had a game where I was outnumbered and losing. Decided to send all my remaining combat ships around the back way and do some damage and try to draw his main fleet off. I had several small fleets all directed to my end of a warp point as a staging area. Unfortunately his main battle fleet had doubled back too and popped through the warp point in the same turn all my fleets arrived there, separately.

Re: Worst Combat Experience
Ouch.
Playing my first PBW game, it was a team game that was all out war. I had a black hole with 2 unstable warp points between me and an enemy homeworld. I build up a HUGE fleet. Must have had 20+combat ships. Moved through the first warp point. All my ships took some damage but it was all absorbed by the steath armour. What I didn't realize was that my repair ship that was with the fleet had it's crew quarters and bridge destroyed. Now, with only one movement point TO THE ENTIRE FLEET, I didn't realize the situation until I got the report on the next turn that every ship had been destroyed by "natural causes".
2 things, always look through an entire fleet and make sure that armour repair is not higher priority than bridge.

Re: Worst Combat Experience
My worst battle went as follows:
I had a fleet of about 20 ships, mostly light cruisers, but also a few battlecruisers and one baseship. I was attacked by a fleet of 8 Abbidon Dreadnoughts - not the biggest problem. However, I accidently moved my ships into firing range of the dreadnoughts by mistake! BLAMMO! - those darn Allegiance Subverters took the few battlecruisers I had and turn them against my fleet. BLAMMO! Most of my smaller ships took heavy hits. It the end I lost everything but I few light cruisers that escaped and the Abbidon took some 5 ships, including the powerful baseship armed with some long range torpedoes. I only managed to take out two dreadnoughts. All of this carnege because I accidently moved the lead ship when trying to target the enemies by mistake! Be careful!

Re: Worst Combat Experience
Oh my, that reminds me of another bad one from a recent game. I was in a PBW game where I was mopping up what was left of an empire after his homeworlds had been glassed or taken. I split my fleets up to speed the process since all that was left was smaller planets and single or small Groups of ships. I sent one of my sub fleets to take out a single enemy ship that was in range. When I got the next turn, his single ship had wiped out my fleet of 12-15 ships. What?!?!?! Then I realized what I had done. I had accidentally made a fleet that had only one ship with weapons on it, and the rest minesweepers and a transport. All my attack ships were in the other fleets. The one little enemy ship had an allegiance subverter, which took my one attack ship, which then proceeded to pick apart the reminder of my fleet.

Re: Worst Combat Experience
Massive Intel Operations.
Large Galaxy 250 systems 20 AI's no neutrals.
I was about to hit MEE and knew it. Checked all my stuff everything was in order for MEE war declarations. Borders secure... Counter intel in place... all twelve slots... everything fine. It happens. Next turn about 2/3 of all my ships have insurrections and many planets rioting. It just gets worse from their. It was the intel bug... 20x12 v my 12 intel projects. I wasn't MEE for very long. I rapidly became dead MEEt (is that a bad pun?)
