im in deep doo doo
my early game pretender moved into a province with a disease sight, and is now diseased. i don't have access to any healers, he doesn't have regeneration, im pretty limited magically.
is there anything i can do? he has a little over a dozen "turns" to live...

He'll come back. In the meanwhile, boost your dominion by building temples so that he'll have more health.

Re: im in deep doo doo
come back? you mean if i build a bunch of priest and "call god" right? i'd really like to prevent that, it's change the whole direction of the game for me.
what about the ring of regeneration? if i could get there, would this allow him to heal himself?

Re: im in deep doo doo
It would allow him to heal 10% so it will keep him alive although afflictions will come from the diesiese, and a lot of them. If he has magic paths whitch you don't want to loose get ring of regeneration. If he is pretender without paths its better to let him die and be reborn:P
Although even with ring of regeneration your pretender will at some point get the "mute" affliction so his magic paths will be halved, after that if you want to get his magic paths back you'd need Gift of health/Faerie court/The chalice to get rid of his afflictions.
Although if he gets feeble-minded affliction(reducing his magic paths to 0) Faerie court won't be able to help you, only The chalice and Gift of health.

Re: im in deep doo doo
thanks bbz. i thought i had heard that regeneration could heal some afflictions, but perhaps disease is no one of them. or perhaps i have no idea what i am talking about.
the death of my pretender would be devastating. but i don't think i have the ability to prevent it. i NEVER should have moved him into that province with disease.

Re: im in deep doo doo
While he is wearing the Ring of Regeneration your pretender will no longer lose health to disease, so he will live indefinitely. He will also accumulate afflictions *much* more slowly. So this is a reasonably good solution for the medium term. However in the long term he's bound to get Mute or Feeblemind or some other crippling affliction, so you will want to get hold of a healer (cast Faerie Court) or the Chalice. Both these things are very difficult!

Re: im in deep doo doo
Regeneration doesn't heal afflictions, it just makes it less likely for you to get new ones.
The property which heals afflictions is called "Recuperation". Some monsters have this, including almost all of Pangaea's units and Man's Knights of Avalon. Units which are Immortal also effectively have Recuperation, since they gradually lose afflictions. However there is no way to give your pretender either of these traits. The only way to remove afflictions from your pretender is with a healer (Faerie Court) or the Chalice.
By the way if your pretender is undead even the Faerie Queen can't help. In that case the Chalice is the only option. That's why it's such a valuable and sought-after item! You will need Construction 8 to build it so it's difficult.

Re: im in deep doo doo
we are in the early game, so unfortunately, i think my valiant pretender is done for. which means i likely am too. ahhh well, i never planned on winning(although it was looking good before this!)
lesson learned(the hard way)

Re: im in deep doo doo
Also one more things about regeneration the more of if you have the lesser the chance of affliction, (Or at least thats what I've heard) so It might be worth it to forge hydra skin armor aswell.
That is really bad luck:S sorry about it. Don't give up yet though. Try and forge these two items and shoot for const 8 . Pretender is important but not everything(it will still be a big penalty for you)
Edit: I jsut playtested some scenario with diesiesed pretender and for 70 turns now he never got "mute" or "feeble-minded" (he has 20% regen 10 from hydra armor and 10 from ring) (although that depends on how lucky you are and how qucikly you can get the ring)

Re: im in deep doo doo
that was very nice of u bbz. i wish you could send me that armor and ring! (im only at cons 2 and not set up to move quick) thanks for checking it out 4 me. i will definately keep slugging, but, like most pretenders, mine is vital, and losing power in all his paths will make things difficult, not to mention i have almost no priests on the board.
ahh well. like i said, lesson learned.
