International ordering SE IV Gold - question
Firstly - the order page is a disaster, I don't know about anyone else but I'm not putting my credit card details in until I know the full cost of the order.
If you put the shipping cost and or any rebates on drop down menus and a "calculate" button on the page before I have to input my CC details, I would be a lot more comfortable with it as I would know the actual cost.
Now assuming I saw my SE4 cd in half and post it in, what will SE4 Gold cost (in USD) shipped to Australia?
Do you have an Australian distributor?

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
The shipping is put in before you put in your cc info so I am not sure what the concern is.
And the order page actually is quite nice, very similiar to the way amazon does it's order pages.

Basket, Process order, No account, Input Details (including CC details) - at this point I still have no idea what the full cost of the transaction is and my only option is to press "continue checkout" and since it does not indicate if I can cancel the transaction after this point, I will not proceed.
It seems that the reality is at variance with your account, perhaps you should have another look at your webpage?
The order page is simply awful.
Amazon doesn't make money either, why emulate failure?
I don't suppose you'd like to tell me the cost of SE IV Gold shipped to Aust?
and if I can post the original SE4 disk in with my CC card details to get the rebate taken off the purchase price?

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
i think i see the problem you are having. i have ordered from the shrapnel store twice before, once internationally, and have not had any problems. it seems easy enough to use, and certainly is not as bad as you say.
but there IS a probelm related to what you are describing. if you place an order WITHOUT creating an account and logging on, it will ask you for the shipping / billing info that would have been otherwise on file with your acount before you can procede to checkout.
if you create an account first, you have to answer the same questions, but it will let you leave the billing info BLANK. i would reccomend to Husky65 creating an account before placing an order (it does not ask any questions of you that you would not otherwise have to enter for the order, and you can say 'no' to the news letter). this will let you procede to your shipping costs without entering CC info.
I would reccomend to Richard, fixing the screen where you 'procede without creating an account' so that the CC# is not a required field.
in answer to the other (implied) question, YES, you can still cancel the order after putting in the CC# at the point you describe.

That's the question I've been asking a while ago too. The answer SEEMS to be that I can't get the rebate off the purchase, but instead I'll have to post in the SEIV CD later to get a cheque (which is pretty useless away from the US) or a refund to my credit card (which hugely adds to my cost, and I don't even know if this is confirmed, the order page mentioned nothing about it).
I'd like to hear a DEFINITE answer thanks.

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
Ok, I hope this clears up your questions. (Whether or not you like the answer is another matter entirely. )
There is no way to get a discount at the time of purchase of SEIV Gold. In fact at purchase it doesn't ask you if you own a previous Version of SEIV. You pay your jack and wait for the box.
When it arrives you eagerly tear open the box and find, 1. A CD, 2. A manual, 3. A rebate form.
Fill out the rebate form and mail it to shrapnel, along with a piece of your old SEIV CD, or the whole CD if you can't bear to break it.
As far as what forms the rebate can take. Quote from Tim Brooks, aka "The MAN". He has not contradicted this in any later Posts as far as I can tell, so it still stands.
quote: PLEASE READ:
At this point it looks like we will do the following:
Send us the CD or a piece thereof that includes the Shrapnel Games logo, and include the rebate form that comes with the GOLD Version. On the form will be three choices (you must select one):
1. $15.00 Check
2. $15.00 Store Credit
3. $12.00 Credit to your charge card.
We also, if space allows, will include the original Version of SEIV on the GOLD CD.
The point is the rebate comes after you buy and receive the Gold Version, not before.

P.S. The reason for the 3 dollar difference in option 3 was not some evil plan to buy Tim a new Lexus. It's simply because that is what the credit card company charges Shrapnel for a transaction. That option (Credit to charge card) was not originally going to be offered. They decided to include it as a show of good customer service because of the issues raised by a very few people in this forum.

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
So we spend about $100 AUD (a new release game in Aust sells for around $80.00)to get the game and then pay around $20 AUD (CD postage and cheque clearance fees) to get the rebate at some unspecified time.
I hope SE4G goes well, but I just can't justify the stuffing around and the extra cost when MOO3 is just around the corner and costs less.
It might be different if I could mail in my order with a piece of my CD and get the rebate taken off the actual sale price.

Thanks to Shrapnel for trying to address the problems, but, in the end, it's very expensive for somebody outside the US to buy from Shrapnel Games. I know it's not their fault, but, it doesn't change the reality. That's all there is to it.
Every one of us from outside the US has to make our own decision whether or not we're willing to pay the price for SEIV Gold. Some will buy it, some will not. *shrug*

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
I bit the bullet and ordered SEIVG yesterday, and the shipping cost was US$18! That's almost as expensive as the game itself after taking the rebate!
To be truely honest, I find shipping a game with expensive services like Federal Express an overkill and a waste of money. I never have an urgent need for a game and regular air mail or even surface post is perfectly fine at a greatly reduced cost.

Re: International ordering SE IV Gold - question
i wanted to order SEIV-G and BCT-C (which every wargamer on this board should order, because it is such a cool looking game.. just try the demo!) but i could not bring myself to do it until i know that PBW is back Online. I will definitly get BCT-C (their 'arena' service is supposed to be running), but as for gold, it all rests on PBW.
