Coop PBEM Play
Good Afternoon Folks,
Can one set up a PBEM game to play cooperatively?
A few players/factions/allies against multiple AI opponents?
If not, does anyone have any suggestions on games within this genre that can?
I have been playing CIV 4 in this fashion but I'd like to find something that was strictly a war game without all the 'civilization features'.
Thanks,
Matt

Re: Coop PBEM Play
I believe you can play a team v team PBEM by saving the game after moving your part of the force and mailing it to a team member before he moves then ends the turn to send to your opponent(s).
Obviously this would have to be without being a secure game.
I dont believe it can be done against the AI.

Re: Coop PBEM Play
A PBEM is played you against him.
You could for example decide that Bill Joe and Fred each play a company in the USA side, and 3 others the same on the Russian.
Bill would start the USA turn, and do his thing with his forces. Pass the save once he has done his units moves onto Joe who does the same, and then on to Fred. USA turn now complete, send to the first player on the Russian list. Russian 3 then work through the Russian turn.
This could not be played in secure mode of course, since the registry information on the ongoing secure game is not able to be passed to another player on another machine. So basic security mode only.
Also, I am not sure if the replay would work, being passed along like this. You would need to experiment.
And there is nothing to stop one of the USA team players from moving a team-mate's pieces other than self-control. Who handles the "support" troops, like ordering air-strikes and arty?.
You would need to play around with it to see if such works for you, as it is certainly not the way the game is intended to be played. But it may be doable.

Re: Coop PBEM Play
Thanks for the quick responses.
Yes, I was thinking along these lines as well but seems a bit too cumbersome, and as Mobhack states "it is certainly not the way the game is intended to be played."
The mechanics of saving and sending and such is just too much overhead.
Yes, it can be done but why do it.

Good Morning,
Does anyone have a suggestion on a game that can be played in this fashion without jumping through the save game hoops?

The only way I know is to "do it properly" - ditch the pc and buy some miniatures!

Re: Coop PBEM Play
The SP games need a LAN system. All the HPS games have it. I for one, won't sign up for the internet because I know as soon as I do (within a few seconds) I will receive a bunch of junk mail, commercialism, viruses, and every thing else that's bad that I forgot to mention. I'm already having a hard time with my personal confuser (I mean PC) as it is. I know now, there is something good about getting old, well not real old, but old enough to know better. A young man would just do it, and be all f'ed-up.
