A question about Events in Gold
Actually, I have 2 questions.
1) what does it take to set the Settings.txt so that there is a 100% chance of an event happening?
2) Does anyone know if the Open Warp Point event works in Gold? It didn't in 1.47.
I had an idea for a game where every turn one or more warp points would open or close so that the Warp Points end up constantly changing on the players. I want to try it out but seem to have a problem getting events to happen every turn.

Re: A question about Events in Gold
I don't think 100% is possible. I'm no expert though, so ignore me completely.
You might be able to implement your random warp points by modding a special invisible AI (ie cloaked ships & planets) with cheap stellar manip but no other tech available.
See Devnullmod's monsters for hints on how to do that. I know for a fact they are good at opening random warp points, but I'm not so sure about closing them.

Re: A question about Events in Gold
Is this to be a multplayer game or a scenario? If it's a multiplayer game you could do similer to Dogscoff's sugestion, but have a non-player player control the warp opener/closers. This would allow you to have more conrtol obviously and make sure they get closed.
You could come up with some random method (dice? ) to determine if a warp point is to be opened, and then come back after a predetermined amount of time and close it.
The players would either have to ignore the ships doing the manipulation, or you could work up a little mod that would give you a racial trait with say a opener/closer/level 6 cloak/level 6 scanners(so you can avoid the players minefields)/no maint component. Then build a few of these and run them around the quadrant doing your thing while everybody else plays the game.

Re: A question about Events in Gold
Of course then wouldn't players lay mines on all their warp points to keep the manipulators off? Maybe just disable mine tech instead...

Re: A question about Events in Gold
True. You could give the invisible race a minesweeper ability then too. That would allow people to mine the warp points to prevent others from using them. But once the warp point was gone the mines would be too.

Re: A question about Events in Gold
Well I have no reply to your question either. But if you figure it out I think it would be really really cool!!!

I'll keep you in mind then for the game if I can get it to work.

1) I think 99 percent is the highest level you can set events to. You're free to try 100 percent, of course. Dunno what will happen.
Also remember that you'd have to be able to watch every system and planet in your game to know if an event is happening (or not happening) every turn.
2) I haven't seen it work yet, and I've had a 'spontaneous warp point opening' event in my events file since long before Gold was released.
Given the second observation under #1 I guess this doesn't prove much, since I don't watch my AI opponents logs very much.

Yeah, I got around that by making a temp events.txt with only 2 events. One open WP and one close WP. Both of them are set to send the message to all players and made a test game with an ancient race.
