Re: What are weapon mounts?
In the ship design window you will see a 'Weapon Mount' button in the top right corner. click on and and select the 'mount type' you want to use. If for example you are building a Light cruiser you can click Large mount (I think that's the one) The weapon icons will now have an 'L' on them if they can use the mount. The weapon will now cost more but do more damage and depending on the mount may have increased range.

Re: What are weapon mounts?
Weapon mount describes larger mounts for your weapons. At least in "plain" SEIV. Starting with Light cruisers you can click on weapon and see a "large mount". by clicking on this one gets a larger mount/weapon which does more damage over longer range. This applies to direct fire weapons only, not point defense (in plain SEIV anyways).

Re: What are weapon mounts?
When you design your ships, you see a "Weap Mount" button on the right. That allows you select the stronger size for available direct-fire weapons. Do notice the minimum size(tonnage) of the ships required for those mounts.
In the regular SEIV game, you'll never be able to Large/Heavy/Massive mount weapons on destroyers, no matter how much space you leave available. In addition, the increase in range applies only to Starbases of any size, not to ships or weapon platforms....again, in the basic game. I know nothing about most of the mods.
Watch out for those construction and maintenance costs as you raise your warships' firepower!!

Re: What are weapon mounts?
And to think I have spent these Last few months with weak ships.
I wondered why the weapons on the Last AI race were so much more
powerful then mine.
Thanks guys,

Re: What are weapon mounts?
Pathogen,
SEIV is loaded with things like that. You can play for months and months, and then suddenly someone will point out one new trick that can change your whole playing style... kinda cool
Oh, and the AI will always try to use the most potent mount for its ships; you need to know that to estimate how much damage you can have coming at you.

Re: What are weapon mounts?
Yep... see those little letters on the AI's weapons in the enemy designs view (and yours when you put mounted weapons on)? Those are abbreviations for the weapon mounts - L for Large (2x damage ships / 3x bases), H for Heavy (3x damage ships / 5x bases), and Massive (5x damage ships / 7x bases). (And the base and weapon platform Versions get range and to-hit bonuses, too - an ordinary Ripper Beam might not be a threat - just move faster than he does and he can't hit you - a Massive Base Mount Ripper Beam can shoot as far as all but the most advanced ship weapons and causes a WHOLE LOT of damage!!!)

What are weapon mounts?
Hi I bought SE4g this Last summer and have been playing against the AI for a few months. Someday I'll jump into PBW once I get more familar with the game. I read this forum weekly and have learned a lot by lurking and reading everyones thoughts.
I have a burning question. What are these weapon mounts that are placed on ships?
I am far advanced on my game at home and have never seen where I cound add weapon mounts to my ships. Enemy ships don't have anything like weapon mount s on them either. Am I misunderstanding something? I imagine a WM being something I mount on ship and then place multible guns on it. If this is so how do you do this?
Can someone straighten me out about this?
thanks

No, the AI uses the Last mount entry in CompEnhancements.txt that is available to the particular size of ship. In the standard game, they are arranged so that the stronger ones are at the end. But if you add a new mount after the Massive ship mount that is available to any ship size, all AI ships will use it, even if it reduces damage to 1% or something.

my statement was too sweeping and plain wrong outside of vanilla SEIV. Fyron, you are entirely correct.
