Will these domed planets ever grow larger?
I've been playing SE IV for less than a week so this may be a "dumb" question, but as we know...The only stupid questions are those not asked.
When I colonize a planet with a unsuitable atmosphere (red asterisk planets) they are domed and have low population and facilities accordingly. I know there is the climate control facility to improve the climate. Is there also a further tech I just haven't seen yet that will remove that damn dome? I hate these 5 facility and lower planets.
Thanks,
V

Re: Will these domed planets ever grow larger?
You can convert the domed planets to undomed planets by fully replacing the colonists with ones that breathe that atmosphere. You can accomplish this by either conquering an empire whose colonists breathe that atmosphere. Or... you can establish a diplomatic dialogue with that race and try to trade for one of their colony ships. Colony ships have 4 million colonists. That would be enough to initially convert four domed colonies to undomed.

Re: Will these domed planets ever grow larger?
Yes. In the same tech area, too.
After 3 levels of conditions improvement plants, you get 3 levels of value improvement plants.
After that, there are three levels of "Atmosphere Converter" facilities.
The higher tech ones work faster, taking only 20 turns intead of 30.
Once the atmosphere is converted, you can scrap the converter. The domes will be gone, and the space on the planet will go up 5x.

Wellcome to the Boards.
1: Change the population with someone who breathes that particular athmosphere.
You can trade population with friends or capture population from enemies.
2: Build an athmospheric convertion plant.
Need to research 7 levels of Planet utilisation to get AMP 1.

There is also an atmospheric converter facility that will change the atmosphere to you races starting atmosphere. It is a high level tech and it will take time to convert the atmosphere after it is built.
Edit: BLast you beat me to it.

Nice, you can actually trade populations in this game. Like the famous Johnny Carson line, "Ach! I did not know that!"
And I was thinking that you had to conquer to get populations of different races. I guess the only worry would be the issue of the new population having different politics of what keeps them happy.

The only statistics that the captured populations retain are;
- The picture
- The atmosphere breathed.
The happiness modifiers of the aliens become the same as your own, except that they have a natural anger increase instead of a decrease
You'll have to do a bit of work to keep 'em happy.
I reccomend a few 100kt of troops

Re: Will these domed planets ever grow larger?
Thanks! Couple of more easy ones. Will the atmosphere converter also convert the climate? As in, can I wait until the atmosphere converter and get the same end effect as if I used the climate converter first. And if that's the case, is there a benefit to converting the climate first?
Thanks again

Climate and atmosphere are seperate. Climate is like the weather patterns and such that sweep over the planet, making it more or less hostile to your species. Atmosphere determines if the air is even breathable by your people.
If your climate is poor, your reproduction rate on the planet is poor (as well as some other factors I think). If the atmosphere doesn't match, you can only build domed colonies. Hostile Climates of the wrong atmosphere are usually the worst planets you can find (especially if they are tiny), but it's a rare planet indeed that has no redeeming qualities.
Once the atmosphere has been converted, you can scrap that facility and build a climate control facility, which will further boost the value of the planet, though it will take even longer to do than the atmospheric converter depending on how bad the climate is.
