PBW Ethics
In one of my games a player had quit and the AI had declared a war on me. Unless the player was genious it is in my capabilities to simply eradicate the race. But should i do that? cripple a race someone else might come to play?

Re: PBW Ethics
The AI declared war on you, so you are not taking unfair advantage by going to war.
The next player who gets the empire may decide to be a real pain in the butt towards you anyway. They may even be a friend of your enemy.
So kick butt and enjoy it.
Sometime you just have to accept the good with the bad.

Re: PBW Ethics
Personally i would strengthen my forces at the openings of enemy space. I would wait at maximum 5-10 turns for a replacement player to join, only attacking fleets if they attacked me. After that i guess it is only fair to either wipe them out or take them over. Of course if they do any irreplacable damage it is only fair to capture some planets/ships for compensation!

Re: PBW Ethics
In addition, don't assume that the AI will be running the show forever. In one game, I was slowly taking some of the AI's planets as I worked against human-controlled empires elsewhere. Since I knew pretty well what the AI was going to do, I planned my defenses accordingly. Then, someone took over the empire, counterattacked before I could make proper arrangements, and glassed serveral of my relatively unprotected planets. Oops...Greybeard

Re: PBW Ethics
hehe i see. well the enemy is rather distant anyways and the AI doesnt know where am i exactly (all contacts with the player limited at an eliminated frigate on a warp-point or something like that)

Re: PBW Ethics
depends on wether it's tdm or note
the standard ai can be ignored, somewhat.

Re: PBW Ethics
well if it comes when im on a two-flank war (unlikely) it might not be as bad. Not for me though.
