Re: Any way to list enemy ships?
If you do not want to download shipsets, you can just leave everything as it is and let the game choose a stock shipset for those races. The problem is that the shipsets may change everytime you load a turn. What I mean is when you load a turn and one player used a shipset which you do not have on your computer, the game will choose (random?) a stock shipset for that race. Next time when you load a turn, the same race may be using a different stock shipset. You can live with that of course but... There are people putting lots of effort in making a nice-looking shipset for others' playing pleasure so I think that 100 kbytes is worth downloading.

Here it is, my very first shipset.
It took all the artistic talent I have to make it:

Re: Any way to list enemy ships?
It's probably more practical to just put a white dot on each ship, or to do a flood fill in white around the ship. If you turn them into actual white boxes, it's kinda hard to tell what size they are. You may also want to go into the shipset's Main.bmp and change the empire color (sets the color of the numerals which indicate how many ships there are in a sector, among other things).

There is indeed a very useful piece of free software that does this, which can be found at
CKRename
In one of my PBW games I am a replacement player, and I didn't like the shipset - lets just call them the "Vogons." So, I replaced all the .bmp files in the "Vogon" shipset's folder with the .bmp files for the Pyrochettes, and renamed all them to Vogon_*_* (It was very easy with the rename program). Voila! Now I see the Pyrochettes, and everyone else sees the "Vogons" (unless they've done the same thing on their computer). The game is much more fun to play now.

As a newbie, I started 4 PBW games at once, all of them with Cue Cappa.
The problem is that the color of Cue Cappa is deep purple which blends in with the black background of the screen.
I'd very much like to change the color so I can read the numerals.
I went into the Cue Cappa's Main.bmp and found some icons in the middle of the screen.
What do I do now?
I am a utter Newbie at this and have no idea what to do.

Load it in a paint program (e.g. Start/Accessories/Paint) to load the file, blow up the view so you can easily work with pixels, and then color in all the dark purple with a lighter purple, or whatever color you want.

Actually though, the Cue Cappa look pretty bright to me - you might just want to adjust the brightness and contrast on your monitor...
